It will be a lot of fun for local supporters, hopefully a good close match for neutrals. But tbh I’d love to see the Suns smash it now and go further.

Fun fact - if Gold Coast win next weekend, it means that every AFL team since 2004 has made a prelim except one.

No prizes for guessing what that team is.

With all of the umpiring talk been going since the biggest travesty ever to befall a victorian team

It got me thinking about the way I believe that big Vic clubs are well looked after ie. Geelong, Collingwood & Hawthorn.
If those decisions were reversed IMO they would get a passing mention and maybe a "not a good look for the game" etc.

Now if you are an umpire trying to do your job in the finals are you going to make a call that is going to be treated as above and will no doubt miss more finals because of all the hoopla around it? Or are you going to err on the side of caution and not rock the boat, so that you get to umpire big games and your performance doesn't get scrutinised to the nth degree?

I give you the Freo game last night; that call on Cox that lead to Swallow (yes I hear how that sounds...because of the names there's no way of making not sound like that) kicking the winning point. If that was Collingwood on the end of it we probably wouldnt hear the end of it. Getting Maynard blocked vibes and various petitions to the AFL.

Imagine if what happened to the Crows a couple of seasons ago happened to one of the 3 teams mentioned above.

The people in these positions would surely be aware of scrutiny over some decisions and passing interest in others leading to the current climate. I mean the audacity of a field umpire to get something like that wrong against Geelong. It has never happened to any other team in the history of the AFL.

So no grand conspiracy just good old fashioned Pavlovian conditioning is the culprit.

Nah, today will be all about "Oh we're proud of the boys, great effort" despite what should've been a stomping of a win on their home deck against a first time ever finals side. Absolutely choked.

My particularly favourite comment was "we were never going to win it without Shitkowski and Wagner out". Shitkowski leaves them without a bit of forward pressure yet they still had Bolton and Frederick who should've covered him. But Wagner? LoL that spud wouldn't get a run in our side. I will say seeing Banfield continually get a run for them really does make me smile every time I see him out there.
Glorious Banfield moment in the last quarter where he air swung a defensive spoil, falconed himself and the Suns walked in a goal.

Question:

if Swallows kick was after the siren does the touch on the finger cancel the score or score counted ciz it crossed the line?
If after the siren, the attacking team cannot assist the ball to move.

If the defenders tried to punch it away and it still went through that would count.

Probably mentioned already, but when Swallow was tackled he had possession of the ball and dropped it as a result of the tackle - that's holding the ball, free kick to Freo!
There's no way he was tackled after disposing of the ball, or without the ball.
Shows how bad the umpiring can be in a high stakes game.

Prolonged tackle though clear free kick .

Nah he never really had a hold of it, and even if he did, he certainly didn't have prior.

Cox was over committed to the tackle and then brought him to ground when the ball was clear anyway, so it was always a free kick.

Not that it wouldn't be funny if it wasn't 😇

Yeh, they don't seem to officiate "incorrect disposal" as a thing these days.
