I wouldn't be surprised if there's a bigger play here with Chesser and Carlton... Perhaps Cripps is wanting to come back to WA.

Package our assistance package and Chesser maybe?

Does the future 2nd from Ryan then = Starcevich? If that were to work, I'd allow it. But I don't think Brisbane will be happy with that, even if there is not much they can realistically do about it.

Come on there not going to trade there club legend for Chesser and end of first pick😂

Still not as bad as Willie dogging us after the drugs bullshit.

Willie is my second favourite eagle of all time. I didn’t hold any grudges as it was going to be his last contract and I could understand he needed to prioritise higher salary and a longer deal. He’d also given us a flag so that helped soften the blow.

Why do they think he’s keen to go home? No idea.

Why offer him enough to say yes? Because it’s probably better than a token pick when we have picks everywhere if we get assistance. We’ve probably already got enough picks to bundle up. Can’t keep adding 8 x 18yo. Not a fan of many of the Blues trade options but was just giving the option we have to play with. Moir because he was an Eagles fan even though he recently just signed on isn’t realistic unless it’s a huge $$ offer and I can’t seeing that being a legit scenario.

Out of the options I put forward for Chesser trade, I’d go the McVee path but that race might already be run and won.
I'm with CC, Motlop would be a shocker.

"Offer him enough".
We shouldn't offer him anything.

He's probably worse than Owies and that's saying something.

We can get a future 2nd for an uncontracted Ryan next year if we want, the point of trading him out under contract would be that it actually benefits us now, because we could definitely use another season of him in the forward line given the other options are spud owies, a 34 year old cripps and a bunch of young unproven guys.

If the Saints don't want to offer anything worthwhile for him this year then just say sorry Liam you'll have to see out your contract. No one does our club any favours so why should we keep giving them out?
Are we getting a 2nd for him next year if we hold onto him for another year?

Need to look at the overall benefit rather than the immediate. I don't think we will get a 2nd for him if hold onto him. Letting him go gets the pick, and gets 12 months development into one of the kids that plays instead of him.

He isn't.

Floplop is bad and yet he's also a clear upgrade on Owies and Long. Adding him is an improvement.

That's how ****ing bad that pair is.

I'd imagine so, he'd be leaving as a free agent so we'd probably get a 2nd round pick for him. Would be in the ballpark of what Saints are currently offering anyway with the added bonus of getting an extra year out of him when we could definitely use him. Not sure how we get 12 months of development in if Saints are offering a F2?

If the Saints really want him it also means they're more likely to improve their offer or try some sort of player swap. If we keep folding at the trade table then we will continue to have absolutely no leverage in negotiations whether it's our player leaving or one coming to us, whether they're under contract or not. At some point we need to grow a spine.

It's probably the same as Lachie neale wanting to finish his career in WA.. with age profile and all that... Cripps in a similar boat

He's still a spud.

We've got enough of them.
No good taking spuds from other clubs because they're slightly better than our spuds.

We’re not getting an f2 for a 30 year old Ryan as a free agent…not a chance

Thought he was 29 next year but you're right he's 30, however he has an October birthday so depending when exactly he signed as a free agent he could be down as a 29 year old. Either way I feel the risk is worth the reward, the Saints seem pretty keen on him and I think we could shake a player loose or some better type of compensation at least, and if not at least it shows other clubs we aren't going to continue to be walked over which is the most important thing. Until we make that clear then everyone we do business with is just going to expect they can walk over us.

Each to their own. I’m not all in on any of the Blues options but would rather some of them then a F3 for Chesser.

I am an October baby, it starts be become irrelevant as you get older:drunk:. A 3-4 year contract - you have to be joking

How can he say picks 11-40 are similar but pick 17 last year is top 6. Ridiculous. There are picks in the 40s last year that are comfortably 1R selections this year. I agree when he says he can’t get a read on the draft.
Except M Reid should have been top 6 last year but he slipped to Freo, lack of pace apparently…….the better question would be where would Bo Allan, Berry, Oliver and Hynes sit. Easily all first round but I doubt they sit top 5. Probably struggle to sit top 10 if you include the academy and F/S picks.

No they can't.

And a F2nd is about what he is worth.

If they want to be dicks about any trades we can hurt them much more than they can hurt us.

So something will get done.

I would assume that, as per the draft, there's a specific date use for age when making these calculations.

But it’s relevant for FA compo I believe. Wasn’t it reported that’s why the Roos got band 1 for McKay because he was considered 25yo.

Saints are offering him a 4 year deal at the moment, if the team improves next year and we get similar or better output from Ryan I don't see why a desperate team like the Saints wouldn't do it again. I think Ryan was actually quite good this year, the only thing that let him down was his goal kicking which went at 50%, which is an outlier across his career where up until this season he went at 62%. If he can sharpen up his goal kicking again there's no reason we can't get a similar if not better pick for him next season compared to the F2 saints are currently offering, with the added bonus of another year of his service.

I think it's just the age of the player when they sign the deal at the new club as a free agent regardless of their year of birth, I recall that being used as an argument in favour of Mckay getting band 1 a couple of years ago.

Can't see the benefit of trading out a best 22 senior player for a future pick when our main goal for next season is to improve and be more competitive and have more senior leaders. Just a sideways move with Ryan, we'd be better off keeping him for the season and ultimately probably getting the same pick value in 12 months time.

Either needs to be assisting a pick upgrade to another top 20 pick or assisting in bringing in another ready to go player.

It looks like there could be so many high pick busts this year especially with talls in CDT shubert Dean all with questions marks .

Not really, Neale has won a premiership so he would probably be content on coming to a club that’s down the bottom, Cripps would still want success so why would he come to a club that’s worse off, I could see Fremantle making a play for him, but definitely not us.
