List Mgmt. Welcome Campbell Chesser (Pick 14, 2021 National Draft)

He's quick - but I really think you're throwing the word 'elite' around. Ginbey, Weddle, Blakey are 3 players I would say have elite athleticism off the top of my head. Physical beasts who are quick across the ground and compete with blokes they're giving up 5-10cm on regularly. Chesser is not in their league.

I'm disappointed he's leaving, I think he could become a serviceable player.
Maybe if you just consider power, running capacity is a factor in athleticism as well (Callaghan, NAS). The three you named are in whole different leagues but I’d consider elite as being in the top 5% in the league.

pathetic way to talk about any player tbh.
Culturally undermining act to cut out when we need young players to coalesce around our program. Success is built around hard work, loyalty and a team belief and old mate is not that. Best that he go to Carlton where he belongs.

I'm not losing sleep over it, just getting a vibe.

Yes, aside from Ginbey is there a better athlete on the eagles list?
Probably not but that’s a horrifically low bar to clear.

I’ve never questioned his athleticism, but saying he’s in the top 5% of the league for it? Not quite sure about that. Agree to disagree on that one.

If only his football was as good as his athleticism.

Just have to look at the tracker where he features in the top 5 for top speed and distance covered (usually 1st).

Mate.

Come on.

I always admire your absolute backing of our players, including Luke Shuey's often misremembered Hall of Fame Legend Status career, 3 Academy Awards and Nobel Prize in Chemistry but you may be reaching a little bit on this one.

Happy to agree to disagree but I think if you were to look at players purely from an athletic standpoint you’d be surprised.

The best current athlete at Collingwood for example would be E.Allan, after that it might be N.Daicos/Quanor/Mcreery who Chesser at worst has an argument against.

If he’s not top 5%, he’s certainly around the mark.

I wonder why the club hasn't put out a statement on Chesser yet when they normally do for any players requesting a move. Its been more than 24 hours and if as clear cut as its being reported I would have assumed we would have heard something by now so makes me think he's actaully hasn't made up his mind yet.

Also not sure where all this lodging of paperwork to get traded is coming from. That happens when you've been traded.

Twomey said "Official paperwork has been lodged".

Maybe they put the request in writing I guess.

Campbell wrote it on a napkin at the club awards night and gave it to Jepp.
WRONG

he wrote “yay” in all caps because he wanted to cheer Freo losing but didn’t want to upset Schofield

Think it's just a figure of speech from Cal. The trade period isn't open, so it's impossible to "lodge paperwork".

But yeah - I'm with you. It's odd that the club hasn't publicly acknowledged it yet.

That's what I've been getting at.

Why do you think it's impossible to lodge paperwork?

They can't officially sign until trade week starts but, I wouldn't have thought you would be unable to lodge paperwork.

You can't lodge paperwork until a trade is agreed upon, for starters.

So you're saying a player cannot lodge paperwork requesting a trade and to what club?

You sure about that?
How can they do that? It's not trade week.

The paperwork gets lodged with the AFL after a trade is agreed upon.

Twomey's simply using a turn of phrase.

The move to draft Chesser in the first round was a big blunder.

If Chesser's time at West Coast was a chess game then one could say it had an OK opening, a terrible middlegame followed by a disastrous endgame. No wonder he resigned.

Late 1st Round Picks are generally not as 'sure thing' as people like to imagine they are - especially this time of year.

These are the guys taken within 10 picks of Chesser in 2021.

We were heavily linked to Matt Johnson (which was likely because he was the next highest rated West Aussie) - and he ended up sliding to Freo. He looks promising but I doubt he's a AA level talent or anything.

Darcy Wilmot and Kai Lohmann were good gets - but we weren't alone missing them - they also have started their careers in a top side - whole different ball game.

If it makes you feel any better - Freo took Erasmus (and Amiss) over Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera. 😎

All I got from this is that we failed to draft the resurrected second coming of Sam Butler 😭😭😭

Not sure you can say it had an "Ok opening" when he got injured in the first pre season nothing game and had his entire first year wiped out cob
