It's almost like we're a team that's won 1 game all season, and attracting big names is next to impossible...

Eagles fans, I want to ask. What would it take to get pick 1 off you guys. If Essendon gets band 1 for Draper, an additional 3 first rounders for Ridley and Merrett. What would it take to get your first pick, cause I imagine we’d have to get a serious talent to replace our out going talent. Like someone like Duursma would be great for us.

Sharp is the classic mid that the board obsesses over and come draft night the Eagles dont select them (think SPP, Johnson etc). Then we rage for 5 years about how we didn't select him instead we take Chesser's son who hasn't played football since the under 14s.

Also a dead cat can't bounce when dropped from the floor.

1,19 for 5,6. Or 1, F2 if you prefer due to your NGAs

It’s a changing space and even more so now CDT and Duursma are apparently putting a gap between them and everyone else in the open draft.

Draft intel would come into it. Will player X, Y and Z get through to us at 5 and 6.

Some early thoughts were 1 and our 2nd (or Hawks 1st) for 5 and 6 but I can’t see that happening now.

Would you take for instance the last of the three picks in a row, let’s say it’s 5,6 and 7, so pick 7 and whatever hawthorns first pick this year is idk pick 9 or something plus one of the second rounders we have for pick 1 and later picks in the draft so we can use on our academy?

If the trade gets us Sharp/Cumming (whoever we don’t take at pick 2) and Lindsay/Schubert then I’d do it regardless of where the picks land. I suspect it would need to be 5, 6 though.

Now that the draft is starting to take some sort of form it’s about the player, not the pick number.

Unfortunately, current picks 4, 5, 6 (possible Draper compo) will almost certainly be pushed to 7, 8, 9 due to Allen compo, Uwland bid, Annable bid. I don't think we'd take 9 & 11 for pick 1 + steak knives.

It's probably a fair trade, but if you're keen to land Duursma we'd be only be trading for a premium that nets us significant upside.

What if we offered you a future first rounder from hawthorn or Brisbane? Would that change anything, instead of a second rounder? So it’s technically 3 first rounders for pick 1?

You have to be able to sell it to your members. While the list team has done some horrible visual deals, I doubt they would be able to sell this one.

Trade pick 1 and let the Bombers take their 2nd pick before the Eagles took their 2nd. Considering we are well suited to trade up the the Power (suns owned pick) if we wanted

Also if we walked out of this draft without a legit mid…..

Throw in Parish and Gumbleton and we'll consider.

You could argue that if Dyson sharpe got to your pick, you could sell it to your members he was in contention for pick 1 and are amazed he slid down, along with a top 10 pick and a future first rounder. But I do get what you mean, it doesn’t look good from a pr standpoint to trade pick 1.

Getting Sharp there would go a long way but that the unknown atm.

Who would you want to keep pick 5 for to get before the Eagles get a 2nd pick? Clearly not Sharp. Lindsay?

Bit of a discussion here about Jack Steele and how he might be a good fit for West Coast. It’s only an opinion rather than any actual intel though so grain of salt areas

JACK STEELE (ST KILDA)

Movement speculation has surrounded Steele — who is contracted through 2027 — in the second half of the season as reports purport disenchantment amid the Moorabbin club’s bevy of imports.

The 29-year-old club captain this year averaged just 20.9 disposals per game — his lowest mean since 2016 at the Giants — and was curiously named sub in St Kilda’s Round 21 win over North Melbourne.

Wood: “He’s clearly not at his best in that midfield; we’ve got a significant influx of players (arriving) at Moorabbin — that’s an understatement to say the least.”

Gullan: “Player harmony, they love him, he’s crucial to the locker room. And then you’ve got Ross and the list guys. Remember, even early days, he wasn’t sure about Jack in Ross way — and I think he now loves him, loves the way he plays — but making him the sub, and (these) little messages were almost preparing him and Saints fans for ‘if we pull the bullet on him, we’re prepared to do it’.

“If a club comes to us — I think that’s what they’re waiting for. If an opposition club bowls up a first-round pick or a juicy deal, they can go ‘yep, no worries’. But they’ve got to understand, bringing Tom De Koning in, if Rowan Marshall goes, there are a bit of harmony things that they have to be across here.”

Barnes: “That (West Coast) is the kind of club we’re looking for. He’s not the kind of player that puts you over the top. Like, we know Hawthorn is scouting around for an A-grade midfielder — that’s not Jack Steele that’s going to be that kind of guy. It’s probably a rebuilding team that wants the leadership in there.

“You’re paying all these people (recruits) millions and millions of dollars, and then you’re probably moving him (Steele) out because you don’t want really to pay him — what about the millions you’ve spent on everyone else? That has to rip the fabric of the locker room.”

I wouldn’t be paying a R1 pick for him like they’ve suggested but if the Neale stuff becomes the pipe dream I think it probably is, then Steele would be worth considering. If we do get given the priority pick to use in a trade we’ve asked for, then that could perhaps be used for Steele

Or we incorporate Steele in the trade for Ryan with some steak knives being sent to the Saints

Good strong body in the midfield to help Harley and co as well as being a positive presence in the locker room

I imagine it’d be Xavier Taylor and potentially that kid I forgot his name that’s rising up the draft order, Sullivan Robey.

Robey, his rise would definitely make things more interesting.

Sorry read that wrong. Taylor a nice fit too

Steele will be 75 by the time next season comes around. Only fair to trade him for 75 year old Ryan and call it evens.
