Jon Ralph on the Midweek Tackle talking about Merrett and Hawthorn
"Hawthorn hold all of the cards right now".

I think he's forgotten that Merrett is contracted.
Hawthorn hold no cards.
While you are right, it doesn't really work that way anymore.

If a contacted player wants out, they will ask for a trade to their desired future club. It's than up to the two clubs to make a deal.
There is no real point holding on to a player who doesn't want to be there, and for all the big boy talk of walking players to the draft, it never if rarely happens.

So yeah, it's up to Essendon to salvage whatever they can out of the situation, or be stuck with an unhappy player for 12 months

Basically what happens in soccer, right? Better to sell a player with a year left on their contract, than to allow them to walk for nothing a year later.

They’re also well short of holding sufficient trade capital to turn Essendon’s head.

Carlton’s R1 pick doesn’t really touch the sides and adding their F1 won’t move the needle much

It's interesting reading on the hawks board, there's been two leaks this year about a club's captain meeting an oppo coach, and the only commonality is Mitchell. Yet they're in there going "must have been Merrett's management leaking it!".

Guess even they think it's grubby but don't want to admit what's going on.

Well Brad Scott was emphatic he wouldn't be traded.
Also said the club has committed to Zach by giving him 2 rises in the last 3 years and he expects him to honour his contract.

It's not like us being happy to let TB go.
I'd be surprised if this one gets done TBH.

I made the mistake of going onto the main board, a thread on there.

I saw this:

It's a big F YOU to the Bombers board.

It's getting ugly.

Hawthorn have zero benefit in leaking and historically have been very tight lipped.

Yes definitely, Hawthorn are the epitome of running a tight ship and not advertising their wares in public 🙄

The tears are glorious tho.

Hes a flipping idiot.

Opens up about his MH issues that required legit medical help then behaves like an absolute flog to someone just doing their job

I heard the photographer was a local whose worked for the Geelong Advertiser for over 20 years.

I imagine she'd quite close with a lot of the players too.

Wonder if the AFL will step in.

What was going on during this massage that was meant to be a "private moment" exactly - did the photographer ruin the happy ending?
The masseuse was giving him a cheap house and hand package
