Have we been linked to anyone exciting yet?
A heap by the peeps in here living in fantasyland but in all honesty, none of them will be coming.

Good players don't go to the bottom sides. That's a fact.

WC will first need to win some games next year before we can turn heads.

2027 will be when we start getting decent players coming in.

GWS gamestyle only works with Green in there. Not saying Sharp is the guy we 100% need but GWS do make it work with a guy similar to Sharp.
There are other ways to fill that gap Green does than Sharp though tbf
The issue is that Green is basically the best player in the league at what he does. ie. has one dimension but is extremely good at it.

So either Sharp becomes that or he’s just another plodder who is decent on the ball. One dimensional players carry a lot of risk if they can’t become the best.

It happens occasionally.

We have $$$, we have Harley and despite of our performances, we're still a powerhouse club.

Ablett Jr
May
Stringer
Beams
Judd

Some examples off the top of my head...I'm sure there is more.

Neale makes a lot of sense for all.

Money usually talks, if you throw enough of it around.

We're a basket case. We're not attracting anyone of the quality you have listed for a couple more years.

Essendon have Bewick coming so will be vehemently opposed to giving up father sons/being locked out.
I think F/S can be solved by just making a rule that any club can only claim one player every 5 years under F/S. Over a long enough timeline every club will get a lick of the icecream and get a player out of it. F/S doesn't really compromise the draft much because there are only a couple of them every year. The only issue is if one club via luck of the draw gets a spate of players out of it in a short timeframe like Geelong did back in the day and like Brisbane have gotten recently.

Look EP...It's okay 🤗

Hopefully our team is trying every possible angle. Got to stay positive if you want to stay in the hunt.
I have no doubt that there would be a heap of phone calls being made behind the scenes and our recruiting team would be busting their arses off to get players over.

I'd love for us to attract talent but we're not in that position yet.

He ain’t quick either mate
Doesn't have to be. That's not his talent. He is the at the coal face.

We were 18th in contested, post clearance possessions and total clearances.....all three stats vital to starting any form of chain/linking for speed of ball movement to actually happen. We need ball winners. He's a proven ball winner

Spot on. It’s something that I genuinely don’t know whether our professional recruiters understand but speed is not an issue with Sharp’s role. He absolutely needs a tank to get from contest to contest and his burst is fine. I’m far more interested in what he runs in the 2km time trial than the 20m sprint.

Well he won his school 400 so his anaerobic lactic capacity should be ok. He also was top 3 for 100 and 200.

He’s an animal, I have no doubt he knows that his 2km time will be the difference between top 3 and top 10 and he would have been working hard on it. Think he’ll surprise a few with his time, as will Dalton but at a different level.

I just don’t think we’re going to value what Sharp brings. He is the clear #1 pick in my view and a dire list need. I’d feel more comfortable if we kept both picks, being a SA boy is helpful too.

The Merrett Essendon circus will make the top 10 interesting.
Sharp is too obvious, we need to pull something from left field, and always turn a high pick into two middling picks.

So we are we are always left without top end quality.

The Sharp talk reminds me of the Murphy Reid talk last year. Not athletic enough apparently. Even though he gets from contest to contest fine.
Reid was much, much cleaner with his hands, is a much quicker decision maker and has far better skills. What does Sharp have that will compensate at the next level? Bearing in mind the pace at SANFL level looks too hot for him

He's basically been a man for a lot longer than most of his school competitors I'm sure
So what. He's an athlete against his peers. He's also one of the best footballers. Makes a nice combo.

Draft combine will be interesting for a lot the draftees this year, particularly BC of lack of consensus on where theyre rated. More than any year this year I feel the combine results will force bolters and sliders.

It's like Billy Madison beating his classmates at dodgeball

Sharp is better in the contest, better defensively, better overhead, better leadership, high iq and he has great hands too. All AFL traits.
Disagree he looked out of place at league level. Played well forward with brief stints in the middle. Plus his underage game in the finals last year was elite.

They have different skills but Sharp has a great cv and is just as good a footballer imo
