Reid was much, much cleaner with his hands, is a much quicker decision maker and has far better skills. What does Sharp have that will compensate at the next level? Bearing in mind the pace at SANFL level looks too hot for him
The best inside mid by a mile in this draft. Exceptionally defensive. In the mould of Dunkley and Yeo.

Sharp is too obvious, we need to pull something from left field, and always turn a high pick into two middling picks.

So we are we are always left without top end quality.

Would love to know who Richmond want at 3 and 4 (I assume we will know), would make it clear how palatable 1 (Duursma) + x for 5,6 is.

If it’s two of CDT, Robey, Grlj, Greeves, Marsh and Taylor I’d pull the trigger in a second but wouldn’t want to slide any further than that.

We wouldn’t be picking our F/S, NGAs based on their WAFL performances.

Unless they are an elite player they are kids trying to adjust to a new level.

Sharp is better in the contest, better defensively, better overhead, better leadership, high iq and he has great hands too. All AFL traits.
Disagree he looked out of place at league level. Played well forward with brief stints in the middle. Plus his underage game in the finals last year was elite.

They have different skills but Sharp has a great cv and is just as good a footballer imo
He averaged 14 touches in 9 SANFL matches going at 50 something percent efficiency, his natural game was greatly impacted going up against men. Tom Gross, who is miles off the pace from a conditioning pov, and was taken in the 40s, averaged 22 touches for the shittest team in the WAFL

How's Sharp going to excel against even fitter, faster and stronger men? He doesn't have anything else to go to

They're not being spoken of as potential picks 1 or 2 though, and have you seen Sharp? He's been a man for years

Played forward pocket a lot.
Also had a 20d, 7 tackle, 6 clearances, 1g goal game and 22D 12mark game to show he can present as well.
Also as an underager had a 21D, 10 tackle, 1G, 5 clearance game in an elimination final

So he played 9 sanfl matches....at senior level.

Think about that for one moment and tell me, how many games of VFL sanfl or WAFL has any of the other potential 18yo draftees played this year. Not Colts or reserves, but Seniors.

When you research that, ponder why.

So was Lalor and Harley Reid. Are you not picking them because they were men? Do you also not rate them as prospect because they were men?

I assume your not a fan of Harley Reid because of his poor endurance in his draft year?

I assume you don't rate harvey langford because of his piss poor speed

I assume you don't rate Lalor because of his poor endurance.

Just wait until the combine. Your going to have so much egg on your face that somehow the best CV prospect somehow performs well at the combine. Then you will have no where to go besides saying he is bad based on eye test.

Cdt played better against men then Sharp according to Rav. He's all the rage

Check stats sample size 1....

There's nothing more that needs to be said about sharp besides wait until combine. Because his combine will determine if he is a best prospect since Rowell which means surpassing Harley. Because Sharp CV as it stands + blitzing the combine means there no legit case otherwise besides based on feelings.

Sharp haters will hold sharp to a high standard at the combine ignoring the fact harley had poor endurance, langford ran 3.2seconds speed and endurance was awful

They played him as a half forward in most games. He didn't get much time in the middle.

When he did, he was amongst his team's best.

I heard on 882 tonight that we are chasing Sean Darcy - is this true?

Luke Darcy, we're looking to bring him into our side to get the average age down if we end up keeping Liam Ryan.

I just wish our team would keep it simple this year, take what we need. How often do you get to take the first two picks in a draft where you don’t have to hope someone doesn’t take who you want?

Pick 1 Duursma. Put him on the wing and let him run.

Pick 2 Sharp. Straight in the guts and let him facilitate Harley and Hewett.

Trade for the Port pick with GC. I doubt Bombers get band 1 for Draper but even if they do the Port pick will still have one of CDT, Lindsay, Cumming, Schubert, Marsh or Greeves still available.

Trade the pick hopefully for Hawks R1, R2, and Liam Ryan compensation. Tell the Suns with our 3 first round picks no nominations will come from us.

Hopefully land Starcevich via Free agency or perhaps our Rd2 for him and Dev Robertson with a later pick coming back to us to match Banfield or an academy boy if someone nominates them.

Trade Chesser for Hollands and roll the dice.

Take academy boys with cat b and rookie spots and take blight as a delisted free agent. Ofcourse this depends on AFL giving us extra spots but I think they will as it will help our development at WAFL level as well.

OUT
Allen
Ryan
Chesser
Petruccelle
Jamieson
McGovern
Sheed
Rawlinson

IN
Duursma
Sharp
Port pick 8-9
Hollands
Robertson
Starcevich
Blight
Banfield
Walley
Evans
Williams

If the AFL hands us priority assistance picks even better and even easier to get deals done.

Doubt Neale or Steele are coming and we don’t seem to care about rucks so not sure what else we can achieve here.

Gross is playing as a drafted Afl listed 19 year old.
Sharp is still a 18 year old colts player who hasn't been drafted yet so i don't see how you can compare the two.
I saw Ginbey play at league level at East Perth in his colts year either as a backman or later in the year in the forward line.
Trust me he wasn't dominating in his appearances in the Wafl. He was just a role player.
People expect too much of players who are still colts when they step up to play either Wafl or Sanfl league.

We overlooked SPP for Venables as some thought Venables had more upside.
SPP has had a decent career at Port Adelaide. He is a tough nut and oh yeah his skills are not up to scratch.
Pity some of our guys can't tackle like him and are soft as butter.
Back to Sharp So many reasons to overlook. He's a man already.

Didn’t Moir want to come to West Coast pre-draft since he grew up an Eagles fan? I’m not sure Moir = Chesser exactly, but with Chesser’s trade request, it should open the door for us to have a conversation with Moir about his interest. Moir wasn’t a high draft pick and only put together a handful of good games last season it seems, similar to Chesser. The gap between them in value can’t be that significant. That said, I haven’t seen much of him at Carlton, so I’m not sure if he’s the type of player we’d want. I just recall there being genuine interest from us at the time of the draft.

He just signed a 2-year deal about a month ago so doubt he's wanting to move just yet + can't really throw money at him to convince him otherwise.

That being said I would take him for Chesser - we've got some mids who rotate fwd and some genuine crumbers/pockets coming in the draft, but always think specialist HFFs are underrated.

Would definitely be asking the question, Chesser won't demand a high pick and outside the top 30 I'd rather be adding players a few years older so they're actually ready to play. One of the annoying things about losing Chesser - not that I think he's that amazing but is at least both an option for now and a possible player for the future.

But Carlton will be thinking the same and no way they'll value Chesser anywhere near highly enough to nudge out an existing, contracted player.

Are these Yeo descriptions about Sharp accurate? because Yeo is/was an athletic beast with burst and agility, not solely a contested inside mid.

Look I’m just glad we’ve got at least one, probably two, top 10 draft picks and four in the top 20 going into the draft and trade period.

Imagine how North are feeling with their first pick being 20 after finishing second last and trading out of this years draft and not even taking Shanahan. The mind boggles.
