How much of a spanner is this Sullivan Robey becoming for our potential picks. A good spanner problem I mean. He almost looks a little Lalor ish from last year. I remember he climbed pretty quick but came from like the teens picks into 1. Big bodied medium height powerful forward who rotates into the midfield. Could he climb to our picks? Looks really smooth/clean with ball in hand for a guy his size. Wouldn't have thought we can take him and Dursma though as both seem to not have cemented positions and may be double risk?
Id take a punt on him not our first 2 picks though

Hopefully we can nab one of gold coasts picks and I'd definitely take the punt on him given the seeming lack of quality in the draft

Ahhhh almost everyone is doing so

Goes one about his around the ground skills, like Jackson.

Don't think ive ever seen him compared to Grundy who was a monster strength wise from the day he was drafted.
I think these are pretty fair assessments of him. When you watch his highlights it does stand out how fluid and quick he is; he's obviously an excellent athlete for his size. I think the questions about him are also fair, those being his ruck craft and exactly where he will fit best. It's one thing to say "fourth midfielder" if he doesn't become a good ruck then he's not going to just play pure midfield. I feel like with his athleticism he could be a Blicavs type where he can play quite ably in the ruck, at either end of the ground or on the wing without really being elite at any given position. And if everything comes together then he just becomes a guy who's above-average with his ruck work but beats his direct ruck opponent around the ground by being a lot quicker and more athletic.

I have a hard time judging desire and heart and instincts but I suppose there's always the chance that he's like Brander or Tom Lamb or Harry Barnett and his athleticism doesn't really translate into being a good AFL footballer.

Until I hear Brad Hardie prattling on about how West Coast are fools for recruiting Lachie Neale I won’t believe it’s happening
Do you want to hear him and Sumich questioning his sanity if he did end up coming to the eagles ?? It happened today

He would have to go sub 6 minutes in the 2km time trial to be even remotely close to be talked about in the same context as blicavs. And his running vertical jump would want to be near all time top 5.

Blicavs was an Australian world junior 3000m steeple chase runner. He is as much a unicorn as there ever has been for someone his size. His running capacity is the only reason blicavs is so versatile.

I think of Kruezer a bit when I watch him play. Good all round footballer but not dominant at any one thing

My first concern with CDT is his leap as he doesn't appear to have much of one in the footage I have seen.
The other is intent for contact, I have seen a lot of talls in the past not have enough aggro.

If he played forward so much then it wouldn't hurt to hit the scoreboard🙄

Bailey Williams had pretty much identical year despite being a leapfrog that can't kick straight.
CDT a better centre half forward option, Williams better deeper.

👍Would have gone in the mid-late 30's last year
I generally find that your opinions are WAY off. At least from my view over the years.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, I don't mean to be rude, but your prism of perspective is somewhat distorted from mine.

Has there ever been a draft in AFL history where Jack Redden would be top 2? I’m not even sure there’d be one where he’s top 5.
Its the safety of the pick.

In 2017 it was a weak top end, and Andrew Brayshaw was a safe bet for a no frills inside mid. (I think Redden > Brayshaw)

We're in the same position where the next 5 best are all Patty Dow/ Cam McKenzie level. One could turn out as a Zac Bailey but you can't pick it.

Much better than deliberate or "insufficient intent"

Black and White rules with less interpretation of what someone is thinking are always good. In true afl style they do seem to be making it as complicated as possible though
Insufficient intent is a good rule it just needs to be umpired correctly.

You hack it out of defence to the boundary with no player their its a free

You purposely handball or tap it out it's a free .

If it comes off the side of the boot no free .

You save it from going out and kick it up the line and it goes out no free

If an opposition player can pick it up but let's it go out on purpose no free

From his first breakout game highlights he turned it over a lot. Didn't seem that clean, but might be just me.

Sam Butler has been good tonight, played his role well.

Hopefully we can snag him, Hawks offering him 2 years, I’d be comfortable with offering him 3, potentially 4 with triggers.
Unlikely to leave now you’d think. If he was still playing VFL at this stage maybe. About to play in a prelim

At least it shows we might be at least identifying the buy low and ready to take their game to the next level talent. Erasmus definitely did late and now Butler

Dammm, Erasmus and Butler finding form and a spot at the wrong time for us

Hopefully Butler being mates with Bakers and Graham might help

A common "views and opinions expressed" disclaimer states that the opinions presented are those of the author or speaker and do not necessarily reflect the views of their employer, institution, or any other affiliated organization. A simple example is, "The views expressed herein are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent the views of dinnaz

More right than wrong is the goal. No need to sugarcoat anything here its just a forum for expressing ideas 😘

We are really going to struggle bringing established talented players
As I’ve said before it’s not uncommon.

Hawks missed a lot of their first choice targets 2 years ago and had to pivot to Chol, Gunstan, Ginni and Mass.

We will (hoprfully) do the same, just hope for the same luck and our scouts have the same sort of eye for role players.

Plenty of afl ready players can fill a role that have gone through drafts and trade period with no one interested to being a great pick up and best 23.

Keays, Hinge, Ned Long, Farrar, Humphries, Mannagh, Atkins, Membrey, Mihocek of some playing in the last 6 teams.

Crows wanted Petty and Oliver as well. Maybe missing out on your first target and having to pivot is a good thing.

Always have, always will.

We can only really rely on either, older WA players wanting to come home or fringe players wanting more opportunity.

Who was honestly the last genuine star that either us or Freo lured back?
Bolton? Already had massive success
Jackson? Baker? See above

All WA lads who have had success.

Just another disadvantage we have to learn to deal with (which I would say we have managed well in the past)

From this mornings Fox Sports draft article. Teams looking to trade out of this 'bad' draft because of all the players already tied to clubs. But pick 1 and 2 is still pretty prime rib to get in before the Northern clubs take their turns on pillaging it.

From the article

Rival teams, at this stage, believe if West Coast received Pick 2 as free agency compensation for losing Oscar Allen, the Eagles would use the first two picks to draft Duursma and Duff-Tytler, possibly amid bids on club-tied talent.
