Came across this earlier today. Heartbreaking for the victim, fleeing Ukraine, settling in Charlotte, North Carolina as a refugee.

Sits down on a train, and gets stabbed multiple times in the neck, and bleeds out.

Happened last month but it only now really getting mainstream coverage:

Absolutely awful. Escaped a war stricken country to end up stabbed on a train.

My heart absolutely bleeds for her and her family.

Yeah, it was horrific. I saw the video and I felt so bad for her. She looked shocked it happened and then 15 or so seconds later, just slides off her chair unconscious.

The worst part is there were several people sitting around her that did not check on her until it was essentially too late.

It is truly heartbreaking.

has anyone seen any motive for the attack? everything I've read so far talks about there being no interaction between the two, and the victims background. is there history of drug use or mental issues in the attackers back ground? whilst not being an excuse, it may help to understand why.

You can hear on the video he's saying "got the white girl" after he attacked her.

This thug has been arrested and in and out of jail for years. Should have been put in an institution but was given bail time and time again.

Schizophrenia apparently. Well, that's what all the apologists on Reddit are saying. Seeing more sympathy for the killer than for the victim, which is weird. They're blaming Trump for cutting mental health funding.

I've heard several people state the perpetrator has a long criminal history and also has mental health issues.

Dying alone and scared like that is horrid. I feel awful for her and her family. A small saving grace for the family is the support she has received world wide. I've never seen Social media so hot and united after a thing like this. And for a Ukrainian in Murica of all places.

People are giving him an out due to his schizophrenia which is sad. People still know right from wrong.

Stabbing an innocent defenseless woman from behind is enough for me to be put down. Don't care for any mental health issues. Would anyone miss this monster? even his family have distanced themselves from him after he violently assaulted his sister.

so if the above comments are true and the perpetrator was previously arrested approx 14 times, had mental health concerns and was schizophrenic, it makes you wonder how he was able to be in free society. hopefully there is an in depth look of why he wasn't in either a prison or a psychiatric facility, and people learn from the failings to prevent a repeat.

The attack is much faster than I thought. Only a couple of seconds to inflict horrible injuries.

I can't fathom why it took minutes for anyone to even check on her?

Even if the injuries aren't immediately visible, she was clearly attacked and distressed, why did no one even ask "are you ok", at the very least.

Then when she falls to the ground there's still a gap until another passenger spots her (I assume) and helps her? If someone steps in faster to at least render aid and limit blood loss, it could've potentially saved her life.

Horrible. I'm really lost for words, genuinely makes me feel ill thinking of this girl fleeing a war-torn country, only to bleed to death in her new on the floor of a subway.

Shows the mentality of America compared to pretty much anywhere else. If that's Australia, the attacker is pinned and 10+ people helping the Victim. Instead 2 run off (did they report it to anyone?) and 3 sit there with no ****s given. The Other people down the cart further turn back after seeing the blood drops but she was slouched on the floor, high chance they didn't see her. Didn't look like much commotion was made it was that quick and she was in shock and quiet.

From what I've seen nobody was even watching and it was over in a flash, then he just moved on.

The man who looked after noticing all the blood pooling, was absolutely frantic trying to help her and get her off the floor.
