I've said before about Tassie, there are clubs that are of the active thinking it won't actually happen.

The AFL are being shits about Tasmania spending over a billion dollars to make sure Collingwood never have to play at Bellerive, which Tassie can't afford.

Add to that the Tasmanian government is perenially on the edge of collapse and beholden to anti-stadium independents.

I'd reckon that unless the AFL stop being shits and pull the stadium requirement, that Tassie's entry is at best 50/50.

Edit: More justification for the Hobart stadium not happening:

It's beautiful just beautiful royalty has come home. Welcome Dev.

He needs to be taught a lesson and the lions DNA should be scrapped from DNA.

He needs to play WAFL for a substantial stint until he learns the wce way. He needs to earn his stripes and prove he is loyal to the blue and gold.
He does not get the privileged to wear the wce jumper those before has worn yet.

Copied from reddit: Weekly gettable summary.

Eagles relevant appears to be Duurmsa & CDT likely.
Ah Chee to Adelaide
Carlton not interested in Petch
Butler likely to resign with Hawks, eagles chasing hard.
Flanders vic bound
Devrob a decent chance to land at eagles

Another year another devrob rumour what a shock

I know we all like to pile onto Dev not coming here but i think you will find it's his Mrs that didn't want to leave Brisbane and he prob figured since he played in the 2023 GF he would at least hope to get more game time for 2024/2025.

I actually think if we can get him and give him proper midfield time he will flourish.

My honest feeling is that the AFL doesn't want a 19th team in Tassie that badly. It creates a whole host of problems while not increasing the number of games per week (tv rights). They'll take one but only if they get everything they ask for in return, primarily a new stadium.

Don't know the circumstances but Dev is depth at worst, Sandover medallist if he plays WAFL and would be better than injury prone Chesser and Butler.
Cheap addition either way.
All the rumours we are only getting Starcevich is contrary to how we do business and that we are throwing the net wide to attract players.
Only just been reported by Neal's manager this week that we approached him mid year, this is how we do business, behind the scenes and out of the media.
Just because its reported otherwise or silent doesn't mean we are doing nothing.
Watch this space when finals are decided I think.

Ask yourself this question.

How hard has it been for suns and giants and now west coast, to lure top end talent to come play.

For the suns and giants they had all the high end draft picks and have managed to continue to recycle those players three to five years later for a bounty....of more 18 yo draft picks.

Now with us dead last for four year we can't seem to lure anyone, yet we have all the money, the best facilities, arguably the best stadium of loyal fans and shmick weather.

Tassie can't afford to be losing week in week out by 100 points. They have highly AFL educated fans that won't tollerate 10years in the abyss.

To lure players and retain young talent, they need to avoid anything that works against them. Playing in the howling wind and rain every home game works against them.

The players need state of the art facilities and a home ground that when they run out is measurable to any other team.

Rather tunstill . Quicker , more agile and better kick for the same ball winning output

He would be an upgrade on Chesser as we need a defensive minded Mid compared to Chesser.

With Neale id dare say he is 100% committed to trying to get his body right and aim for the GF if he can. His manager shutting down all trade talk is a way to give him fresh air to tackle the GF IF they get there of course.

Not saying he is coming here but you just never know these days till its trade time and what the manager says can always do a 180 as we have seen in the past.

I always assumed that it went essentially this way:

AFL flunky: Hey, Tassie's on the line, they want a team again
AFL honcho: Shit. Look, tell them that they have to spend a billion on a stadium. They can't afford that, it will get rid of them.
AFL flunky: Ummm... boss, hate to tell you ....

Tasmania: <goes bankrupt>

I'm not a huge Chesser fan, but I'd take him over Dev every day of the week.

In short though - Tasmania does not have the money for this. To build it will cost a similar amount of money as Perth Stadium, in a city one eighth the size, and that will at best have one third the events in any given year. Note that any Tassie team will be playing some home games in the north of the state too, if they want any supporters there.

If you build a stadium in Hobart, it's more like Kardinia Park, not Docklands.
