Ryan for Steele is real.

Tell me more Tell me more, like does he have a car?

This should 100% be the angle that WCE work - it would be hugely unpopular with Saints fans though and would require Steele being completely on board

Saints i think are keeping their 'exit' powder dry somewhat until the dust settles on Wilkie, Windhaeger and Marshall.

If we are looking a Jack Steele, why not consider Matt Crouch as Elliott Yeo insurance. Steele better but Crouch would cost us nothing.

I always assumed that it went essentially this way:

AFL flunky: Hey, Tassie's on the line, they want a team again
AFL honcho: Shit. Look, tell them that they have to spend a billion on a stadium. They can't afford that, it will get rid of them.
AFL flunky: Ummm... boss, hate to tell you ....

Tasmania: <goes bankrupt>
Basically Tassie idea is great but with up to 3 clubs in VIC being insolvent and wouldn't survive without AFL assistance $$ every year it was a golden opportunity to amalgamate 1 of those clubs to make a Tassie team with a decent supporter base to kick off with and then their proposal of a stadium would probably been sustainable.
Build a slightly bigger stadium with a bigger supporter base.

Lets face it, AFL will never do this in the short term but this is the only way to build the AFL. BRI/SYD are classic examples of this.

There should be a reduction in at least 2 teams in VIC by amalgamating the two poorest and stop this cycle of hand to mouth feeding underperforming clubs by taking more and more from the better performing clubs.
15-16 team comp would be plenty and every club would have 70k+ members and they would be highly competitive, facilities/stadiums would need to increase size, increase list sizes by 4 and this competition would be untouchable.

Copied from reddit: Weekly gettable summary.

Eagles relevant appears to be Duurmsa & CDT likely.
Ah Chee to Adelaide
Carlton not interested in Petch
Butler likely to resign with Hawks, eagles chasing hard.
Flanders vic bound
Devrob a decent chance to land at eagles

Really hope we can persuade butler. You’d also think we are likely to land hill if his kid/s are still stationed in Perth.
This with baker would provide some desperate pressure and firepower at the shanahands feet.

Has anyone got an explanation from the club why we've never converted a Category B rookie? We have all the wealth and one place where you can spend it is Category B. We should be trying an Irishmen & a basketballer every year.

What do you mean converted?

We have gone down that road in the past - a couple of basketballers, we had an Irishman at one time.

We have mostly used Cat B for NGA prospects - Tyrell Dewar currently the most successful.

Club had the right intentions, but attracting players to a team that has lost 80 of the last 91 matches is tough

People seem to forget that you can’t trade a player unless they agree to it. I guess it’s convenient to ignore when your trying to blame the club for everything.

Dev just isn't AFL quality.
Honestly, I don't know what people see in him.

He's poorly skilled and makes bad decisions.

He'd be a good WAFL player.
I tend to agree. Nothing I have seen from him makes me think he is worth a list spot. Even at our rabble.

I realise he is well down the pecking order due to Brissie's abundance of elite mids, but even serviceable AFL mids find themselves a regular spot on the half forward or half back lines. He's played 6 games in 2 years.

I'm pretty sure he peaked when he had his jumper ripped off that one time and all the ladies were frothin.

We’ve used our Cat B spots most years. We had to move Dewar to the regular rookie list this year to make room for Champion.

Looking at that breakdown the Eagles, Saints and Suns could do a deal.

Assuming Allen and Draper first round compensation

WC give: 17 and Ryan

WC receive: pick 9

Saints give: pick 9

Saints receive: Flanders and Ryan

Suns give: Flanders

Suns receive: pick 17

Values Ryan at mid-2nd round pick.

Gives Eagles another top 10 pick for a Schubert, Robey, Grilj etc

Saints get two of their trade targets

Suns get another 879 points towards bids for Uwland and Patterson

I'd do it - doubt the Saints will be keen though - despite it being a reasonable deal.

After bids, 9 is what...12/13?

Pick 15 and 19 equals pick 6 (Port pick), could make that trade as well with GC (plus another pick to make it worthwhile (34 from Carlton for Chesser?)

To end up with 1, 2, 6*, 9*

*picks will have slide back at least 1 with us getting pick 2. If we could do that then no need to consider trading pick 1 or 2.

Duursma/Sharp/Schubert/another mid

Watched that Gettable episode in full which is the first time I’ve bothered to do so this year. Quite a bit to takeaway from it - not much to get overly enthusiastic about from a WCE perspective but there were some little nuggets of hope

Some of these have been touched on already but my takeaways:

• Chesser likely to attract pick 34 or 44 from Carlton - noting also that the Blues are also chasing Khamis from the Bulldogs who Twomey said is in that same range. We’d be wise to request/accept 34 early and move on before it goes to the Bulldogs.
• Butler more likely to stay than go which is understandable. Might be worth throwing a 3 year deal at him rather than the 2 years he’s been offered by Hawthorn and at more $$ than they’re willing to/able to match (within reason - just because we have cap space we shouldn’t be paying players more than their worth)
• Ah Chee almost a lock to request a trade to Adelaide so put a line through him.
• Starcevich looks a good chance to join us even if Twomey is struggling to get his head around the trade over FA part of his acquisition- and that Brisbane get nothing for him if he leaves as a FA to any club
• Ryan definitely going to St Kilda but no mention of a trade value or an acknowledgment that he’s contracted so we need to be happy with what’s offered
• Our request for as many as four additional rookie spots looks set to be granted and, importantly, with the ability to prelist our NGA players. That would be a significant win
• Also mentioned that we might get a priority pick which we can trade - Twomey bizarrely links that to the Starcevich deal so Brisbane get something which seems unnecessary/unrelated. An extra pick(s) would be handy especially if it’s end of R1 or a R2 tied to our finishing position this year and/or next
• Either way we’ll know Monday/Tuesday next week when the assistance package is ratified by the AFL commission
• Still no clarity on what, if any, changes will be made to the bidding system for next year although placing a higher premium on early bids (top 5) seems more likely than the R1 lockout initially suggested. In true AFL fashion though, that decision might not be made until after the trade period meaning clubs will be trading future picks without knowing what the rules will be for bid matching in 2026.
• There’s talk of clubs in the bottom 4-6 being given additional salary cap space to chase free agents - could be handy for us chasing Chad Warner in 2027 given the probability we’ll still be in that part of the ladder even if we do improve in 2026/27
• Carlton are likely going to put their TDK compensation pick up for trade. Will be pick 10/11 depending on Draper compo for Essendon and might be more achievable as a trade up option than the Port pick held by Gold Coast
• Draper FA compensation is line ball between Band 1 and 2. Silvagni will be band 2
• And big surprise, Robertson a good chance to land at West Coast
