Okay. We've probably had enough of a free for all.

There are still forum and site posting guidelines, and you will abide by them.

A few seem to be of the opinion that now is a good time to have a crack at moderators or moderation. I'd rather like to discourage that impulse so I'm going to make it explicit: a moderator on this forum is a poster like any other, and can share their views and have free use of the forum like any other. If you feel a post breaches the rules report it; attacking a mod for their posting or objecting to a post purely because a moderator said it is grounds for an infraction and some time off.

From here, if you cannot speak civilly, you will not be allowed to participate.

Thanks all.

if Kimmel actually has a following and anything decent to say this will be the best thing that has ever happened to him. If he’s just a vacant propagandist it might not work out so well. Either way this is hardly the beginning of this, this is why you should have faught it when it was your side doing it.

The Biden Administration leaned on private companies to remove late-night TV show hosts?

My side? Dude I was on "your side" for years until shit started getting even more crazy and I finally had my eyes opened.

The FCC should have no say on what Kimmel says as long as it is legal. So their intervention on this is unwarranted, inappropriate and frankly very troubling. Not surprising though.

But I am also not surprised some affiliates decided to bin the show. That's a business decision. If enough people in those markets wanted to keep watching after Kimmel's remarks, the show would still be on that affiliate.
Agree with the first part but not sure about the second. Had the local stations actually lost any money over this? I

Which side has been spouting bigotry, hatred, violence, and demanding a Christi-fascist state to control everyone's lives, and spreading this crap to other countries?

There's certainly some suggestion the affiliate's decision is related to pressure from the Trump Administration rather than an assessment on profitability. Regardless, those late night shows are expensive and ratings have fallen quite a bit.

In this instance, I think "cancel culture" refers to preventing people who disagree from making their own informed decisions. The FCC have no reasonable grounds here for intervention - it wasn't even a joke but a comment. In my view they are "cancelling" Kimmel. Which is pretty interesting in one respect if you've ever come across old episodes of The Man Show.

There is no arguing against the fact that the Trump Administration and their fellow travellers only protect free speech they like, but they're not entirely alone in this unfortunately habit.

None of what you said is relevant to my point. You guys defended it by saying it’s a private company that can do as it pleases. So as the above poster said - rules for me but not for thee- now cancel culture is used against you you can’t handle it . I don’t accept any of your arguments . You don’t accept mine . Ok but at least accept your own arguments when they are used against you😝
Yes it is relevant.

Inciting violence leaves the carriage company liable to be sued into bankruptcy if they do nothing.

Fox News was sued for billions and lost because of them amplifying the stolen election bullshit.

Kimmel merely repeated lines that Kirk himself said.

This Carr guy is clearly another nutter - why are there so many nut jobs over there? His words’ sickest conduct’ -just ludicrous. Kimmel didn’t even say much really. The trump gang are out of control.

This seems like a far more direct link with Kilmeade's comments on Fox than anything teh left had to say about Kirk. I assume he'll be sacked by the end of the day.

(joking of course, he'll probably get a pay rise)

With you on that one. I had voted for candidates on either side, and even libertarian since 1980. That is until that campaigner Gingrich popped up. Since then I couldn't vote R in any election or initiative simply because of what they've become as a whole. I think the last time I did was back in the early 00s because the incumbent was caught in flagrante delicto.

Looks like there’s more to the Kimmel suspension than first thought.

Nexstar, one of the biggest owners of stations that broadcast Kimmel, is looking for U.S. government approval to merge and create an even bigger media conglomerate.

NexStar probably put the pressure on ABC and Disney to end Kimmel’s show or they’d drop ABC/Disney content from their broadcasters. Nexstar gets Kimmel fired and then wins favour with Trump’s regulator who will more likely approve their merger deal.

The Sinclair Broadcast group openly said the same thing, they are known MAGA and Trump Sympathisers.

It’s the same as the Colbert/CBS/Paramount fiasco. Big media conglomerates bending the knee to Trump’s regime to increase their power and wealth

As always, follow the money……
