Let's be honest here, while I like what I saw from him to end the season and would much prefer he stayed, he hasn't exactly done anything to warrant us playing hard ball with him to 'prove a point'.

Carlton got an extremely good deal off us last year getting pick 3.

Now they are chasing a player we have a desire to keep, and who we can take earlier than them if the draft route is threatened.

It’s the time where we call in the apparent goodwill we’ve paid to build, and articulate what is actually of use to us and that it is up to them to go get it.

More likely, we meekly accept a F3. Tbf I’d probably bite their hand off for a F2.

Just not a worthless pick 50+ in a shallow draft that we won’t even use.

I remember reading that Masten was likened to Simon Black the way he played in juniors so a lot on here were keen to get him.

There were stages he was rocking up 30 - 40 possies out on the wings linking up

I don't reckon the relationship is that bad that he'd walk to the draft. His preference would be a fresh start but think he would sign with us if things didn't work out

If I had to guess, I would say it's because he's had nothing but bad luck over here and has decided the best thing for him is a fresh start closer to home.
