It’s a different vibe up here, I grew up in Melbourne and players get hassled ( or as least they did at the time). People leave you alone up here. I remember GAJ talking about it when we were at one of the BnFs ( general chit chat at the table), he had a body guard in Melbourne, that lasted about half a season up here as he realised we aren’t footy obsessed

Well they are footy obsessed up here, just for a different code. Generally true though - Daniher must have loved walking around Brisbane undisturbed.

Patterson knows he’s probably not valued that highly at the Suns and won’t be playing at the Gold Coast next year.

Humphrey already meeting with other clubs, if not this year, it won’t be too long before he’s back in Victoria.

Patterson will be on the GC don't worry yourself.

We have 2 years of future picks to use as well as all the picks we will bring in this year which is substantial.

There are no top academy picks in the next couple of years for us. So falling back in the coming years isn't a massive deal.

Humphrey may be a year to year proposition, but I imagine we hold him this year.

He may end up back in VIC, or it may be a Papley situation where he stays after asking for a trade the previous year.

Hasn’t even asked for a trade yet.

You'll get Patterson but will struggle to match bids on Addinsal, Coulson, Murray and Collins.

Likely bids at 2 & 4 for the top 2 will send you into deficit.

Yeah that is where the fallout will be felt. Probably pick up one of those players you listed, depending on bids and the others probably end up in the open draft.

Not at the moment. Picks 6 13 16 32 cover Uwland and Patterson. Obviously there is Petracca but pick 7 is coming for Flanders (could also use F1 on Petracca with 7). Then points for Rosas, Budarick, Fiorini, potentially Ainsworth. Then we can also go into deficit. No good kids in next couple of years.

2, max 3 matches for me. Rest of kids other teams can do development. If any good why not to try to lure some home just for change in 3-5 years.

Those picks have already gone out a few spots, 6 will become 7 with the Allen compo, 13 will be 15, 16 will be 18, 32 will be 36. So roughly 550pts in deficit (with bids at 2 & 4) If 6(7) is used in the trade for Petracca then that's less points again.

A 3rd round pick for Rosas wont gain much at all, Fiorini would garner some points.

But yeah, you can go into deficit by about 1150pts.

If we're bringing in 3-5 top youngsters this year does deficit even matter?
I think Archie Hill is a decent prospect for us next year but beyond that I think reasonably barren for a couple of years.

You'll be struggling to bring in 3, Coulson, Murray and Collins are out of the picture and depending on the cost of Petracca, Addinsal might go the same way.

OFC, you could just pass on a bid for Patterson at 3 and grab those 4 easily ;)

I don’t bother to work out points and where potential bids may come so will take your word for it.

Strategically, I like the idea of passing on an early bid, just so that in the future, clubs need to think 'do we want to pay pick 3 for this guy' as opposed to 'he's worth about pick 3-5, so we'll bid on him at 3 just to make sure we get GC to pay up'.

That's not to say I want them to do it with these guys, but I'd hope they have a very clear idea of what they're willing to pay and stick to it, and if that involves the occasional pass, so be it.

At a guess, I reckon this trade ends up being something along the lines of Pick 7 and F1 for Trac and 26.
Probably. I know Melbourne are saying they want a player in return, but I think they'll ultimately take first round pick/s because it will help new head coach Steven King to build the list he wants to build instead of settling for a older player that may not be exactly what he wants. Plus, Tassie will be arriving really soon so you want to get those first round picks in now while you can.

Fortunately, live pick trading on draft night is a possibility. So if a bid comes through then there's always the option to just do a live trade like a future pick for a 2025 pick and then match the bid that way and you can also trade two years into the future this year so that's potentially a game changer as well. Our academy is essentially drying up after this season so this probably won't be an issue moving forward. We likely won't have another first round pick coming out of our academy again for a while.

There is also already interest in our first round pick 6 so we can trade it for more points. I think Eagles, Essendon would like to push up board.

Also as DVI index drops significantly in values in round 3 and ends at pick 54. So basically, if a team bids let's say on Coulson pick 35 - 338 points, pick 40 - 238 points, pick 45 - 150 points. That's before 10% discount. Really no big deficit if we really want them or could trade in F2.

I bet we get enough points for later pick matches if we want them from Fiorini, Budarick, ...

Melbourne is hilarious, almost certain they mess this up.

They’d be half way through the rebuild already if they weren’t so foolishly stubborn last this year.

Imagine passing on 2 firsts for Petty, and keeping Oliver only to discard him for free a year later.

No wonder Bucks held out for the Tassie job, this isn’t going to end well for King.

This is one of the great furphies. Adelaide never offered 2 first round picks for Petty, despite Cornes perpetuating this drivel.

They offered a first and McAdam, who we eventually got anyway.

As for Oliver ? I agree with you. In hindsight, there's no doubt we should have got rid of the fat slug a year ago.

Bit rich coming from a Carlton supporter lol

Carlton supporters out of all people shouldn't talk about other clubs butchering a rebuild.

You have had a brownlow medallist and two Coleman medallist in your squad which has eventuated to absolutely zero success.

Stay in your lane buddy.

Pick 7 and Humphrey or picks 6 and 7 or Trac’s back at Casey Fields next month in time for the first to fourth year boys.

Melbourne’s membership numbers are tanking right now. Can’t imagine it getting any better if Gold Coast low ball Melbourne with this trade.

A 3 time all Australian and Norm Smith medallist with 5 to 7 great years left should be a hefty price for Gold Coast.
