Analysis Conspiracy theories surrounding Geelong's list management and salary cap

So it actually wasn’t a big deal. Won’t satisfy the muffins of course who will all reference ‘salary cap breaches’ despite the afl saying no salary cap breaches. Can’t win - best to just move on and ignore the noise from certain corners.
And make sure nobody at the club ever gets complacent again regarding stuff like this - dot the i’s etc. just so the envious don’t have anything more to sook about.

Agree. I suspect Hocking already knew this was coming long ago and has probably conducted a thorough review of the club's administrative practices in these areas, making changes to ensure it doesn't happen again. IIRC, Brisbane and the Bulldogs have faced similar breaches in recent years as well and have been fined. Move on. There is nothing to see here. In fact, the alleged breaches that I have seen so far look extremely minor to me.

"Something something Bailey Smith." He basically had a 'Caro moment'.

SEN's Dwayne Russell believes that the AFL have treated the Cats rather favourably in recent years.

"The AFL has, for some reason, treated Geelong lightly this year, with the Bailey Smith non-sanction for abusing a photographer that was just going about her job," Russell told SEN Afternoons.

"That was crazy, that the AFL could be weak - and I said they were weak at the time. Nothing to see here when it comes to any fine or suspensions for their Mad Monday stuff as well, given what happened with the Giants.

"It does look like Geelong has been very lightly treated there as well, and it is sad that that has been confirmed by the AFL this year, that Geelong does seem to get lighter treatment when it comes to indiscretions of their people.

"I can see why people would be outraged today. I do think that Geelong has had favourable treatment.

"It's crazy stuff, to think that the AFL CEO went and had a cup of tea at Bailey Smith's house. How may CEO's have gone to have cups of tea with players that have caused heartbreak and heartache for the AFL, given their actions?

"And in the end, nothing to see here. Bailey Smith continues to tweet, and put himself out there as someone that divides the public. It's a weird world."

Bailey Smith’s deal with Cotton On was not a subject of the audit, and was ticked off by the AFL.
Dwayne seems to be offended by smith and has been ranting about him in a rather over the top way. He needs to calm down as Andy Maher would say. Smith’s behaviour just hasn’t been as bad as some of the media are carrying on about. They need to get over the desperately seeking outrage.

The Bulldogs only got 20k suspended for their identical errors.
Feel like we have been ripped off here, AFL always favouriting pet clubs

I presume this forensic audit includes the last couple of years of Brian Cook's reign. He's held in the highest esteem in the AFL world ... isn't he? Would love to know his thoughts.

Nuffies: no surprise the AFL is covering up for its pet club

derp GIF
What they don't understand it that the AFL is the GFC's pet. :winkv1:

LOL - so many nuffies will only read the headline then ask why we weren't treated like:

  • Adelaide, who broke the salary cap rules
  • Carlton, who did the same
  • Ken Hinkley, who only abused a young opposition player etc etc etc
I'm with them on Hinkley. Him being fined $20k was a crime

You are not the first to notice this

The first hint for me was that in basically his first post he said this place was less toxic than reddit. Like come on man.
He apologised today to the frothing masses for our fine today.

Hocking and his team would have had the administrative and reporting upgrades ready to offer the AFL.

It’s literally the least onerous reporting requirements you would see. “Please maintain a register”, “please get your associates and sponsors to sign this letter that they can’t give free stuf without reporting it formally, and providing the cost of the item”…

Every audit comes out with some basic administrative recommendations.

But gee the headlines are painful to read. It shows exactly what was spoken about - that there is a Geelong bias when it comes to trying to create media drama.

Footy World’s feels about Geelong:
1.) Pity. Everyone’s 2nd favourite team
Then ➡️
2.) Respect. Gotta tip your hat
Then ➡️
3.) Jealousy. Wish my team was like that
Then ➡️
4.) Seething hatred. CONSPIRACY!
We have become Hawthorn/Collingwood.

It’s great, I like the black hat role.

I hope the night of accommodation was some fan going "Yeah, nah youse can stay at my place"

I'm wondering how much the accommodation side of things followed on from hub life in 2020, and post season there was the opportunity presented to players to stay on in Qld to start their breaks - as it did specify the accommodation was in Qld

I saw a headline about Peter Daicos 'storming out' of the BnF, the use of evocative words like this only has one purpose, they've lost any sense of reporting and it is purely sensationalism.

It's not a Geelong media bias, it's just that the AFL media love to stoke controversy, because that gets the most engagement. They've finally got something to talk about regarding Geelong which is not the boring story of how well we're run, now it's trouble in paradise.

And yet still rated as the #1 destination club…

Heard that : Audit was way over the top.
Had to disclose personal texts and bank details
There was nothing to find and nothing to hide.
Every large organisation has administrative errors.

AFL investigating Cats long term competitiveness
Fine was way AFL recovers costs of the Audit
Also: Fine is AFL signaling to other clubs.
