Saw a 7 journo bail him up in the golf buggy about where he would be playing next year and Zak said I'll be at Port Adelaide in 2026.

He was looking a bit pissed off with being asked it over and over.
Might sway him to stay a few more years and sign early next year.

But lets just play into your hypothetical for a minute.

Sorry - should have made clearer that I was taking the piss (and taking it out of the relentless clickbait media speculation, not out of you or anyone else on the board).

So the media can hassle players, take photos of them, make up shit and think they're allowed to do so? Listening to wobbo cry over [PLAYERCARD]Bailey Smith[/PLAYERCARD] telling that photographer to fork off made me dislike them, after the Butters thing - I straight up hate them.

A year of news about his real estate purchases and golf with players from other trams. He'd have an offer at port that would set him up for life. Sign it or f off. Put our development (and emotional investment) in players who want to be here
Yep we don't need a other ****en distraction. This year was enough

Can someone confirm with me that the Barrett weasel take below is completely wrong, in that we could match any contract bid that comes in for Zak and then still negotiate a trade and pick up a 3 first rounders draft bounty?

Yes he's wrong.

If a potato like Oscar Allen can net pick 2 we shouldn't worry to much if he walks next year
Why do people keep thinking that compensation picks are based on a players ability?

Contract value, age and ladder position are the factors.

Oscar Allen leaving the bottom club on a generous contract was always going to result in pick 2.

I read somewhere else that it was Mitch Cleary, who also got told to piss off by Oliver. Such a clown

He's been a knob these past few weeks. He seemed like an alright guy, but the illusion of power goes to their heads.

I doubt Port gets 3 good first rounders for a RFA Butters (good as opposed to the junk 3 late ones Geelong offered Carlton). But they'll still get more than the compensation pick forcing a trade.

Plus 2 decent first rounders in 2026/27 + change is worth a lot more to Port than 3 with two of them in 2025. It also doesn't account for the opportunity to convince Butters to stay longer term after a season under Carr, which has value.

So while Barrett thinks he's a genius, once again, he's not looking at the situation properly. That's a bad deal for Port they wouldn't remotely entertain.

There is zero chance that Butters would even entertain coming to a rabble like us currently but with how much free cap room we have then we could offer some stupid offer that Port might not be willing or able to match. Again though he ain’t choosing us

Spot on.

Especially when literally asking the answer to a question everyone knows. It's not like there's any doubt. Zak hasn't been on the table at all, yet how much media is being generated over something that's not happening. It's just insanity.

Sure but he's barely played in 3 years?
West coast are a powerhouse off the field so I can see why the AFL want to get them going as quickly as possible.
