Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Catching up after a busy day.

Why has Opium been red carded.

Usually a well balanced, positive type of guy.

They found out about his activities in China during the 19th century

It’s pretty obvious that the chance to renegotiate the last 4 years of his deal on higher dollars is what is driving Charlie’s (and his managers) desire to move. IMO the GWS game to win his Coleman in 2023 was a big insight into his ego…he got the goals to get the medal and then couldn’t be fcuked.

He won’t be paying us anything, just lining his own pockets despite what you said being correct about how we stood by him during his injured years. Unfortunately it speaks volumes for his motivation and his character. I wanted to keep him but if we can turn in Hayward, McInerney and 2 firsts then we should do it.

Ainsworth, McInerney, Hayward, Reidy, Khamis, Chesser, Dean, Ison, Gresham, Jagga and Cody added over the next 2 years sets us with depth to be competitive in 2026 and also to weather the Tassie drafts. We just need to find a cheap key defender (Phillips?) and the list reset is taking shape.
Why is this so obvious?

Many want to believe this because then Charlie becomes the money hungry player people want to think he is, Far better to believe this than admit that just maybe the club is on the nose with some of our players. FWIW his manager has apparently stated that he'd take a pay cut to get out but we all know managers can't be believed.

Could it look like this?

Swans Give: Pick 11, Pick 32, 2026 RD1, 2027 RD1, Hayward
Swans Get: Curnow

Blues Give: Curnow
Blues Get: Pick 11, 2026 RD1, 2027 RD1, Hayward, Khamis

Dogs Give: Khamis
Dogs Get: Pick 32

It is alot for Swans to give up but maybe we throw in 54 or F3?
Jesus christ. Sydney fans would riot. That's crazy

If we end up with 10 and 11(Sydney), we could offer both to * for 6 and 21. Gives us a pick likely before Dean, and 21,22 to match with. That would pay for a Dean bid around 10 and leave a bit of change to match ison later. If Dean does go before 6, we just match with that, and then look to package 21 and 22 to move up the order if there’s someone we want, or trade them into next year to have more assets to match a bid for walker.
I’d rather try and get Walter with 10 or 11

Out of curiosity, if Charlie played for another team and nominated us, what would we give up for him?

Would he makes us better and give us hope to push for finals and possibly go deep?

Or would you say no point right now we can’t deliver into our forward line so he’s not worth giving up picks and or players.

If he makes other teams better why can’t he make us better also?

Blokes a gun. We’ve had a crap year. Get in better players to support him and get him to move more.

He’s a bit of a goof. If he stays he will carve it up.

I’d be staggered if he stays. I think we’ll be presented with something that’s too good to refuse.

I hope he’s happy living in the harbour city though. I don’t think it’ll be at the Cattery.

I dont think he'd be worth as much to us as a team like Sydney because we already have Harry.

Also, at his age we'd be hesistent to give up the farm for him, as we would see it unlikely we contend in the next 2 years.

As I posted the other day (got via Footy Manager) Swans are working on deal that will blow us away.

It’s getting close. I now expect it to happen
For what little it’s worth (given Soap might have some pretty good intel and this adds nothing but maybe reaffirms it) have tonight heard the same from another club source involved in trade week. Doubt we’re hearing it from the same person so thought I’d share too.

Talks have progressed and it will happen. No clue what the deal looks like.

Agree. IMO if we trade Charlie we have to accept the real possibility of a bottom 5/6 finish next year. I would keep him and see if the new additions plus injured players returning can help with improved system and delivery. No reason why Charlie can’t kick 70-80 goals for us next year.

Nah, Heeney & Warner know how do split defenses and spot up targets. Curnow will kick bags with Warner putting it to him lace out.

Heeney will have a bit more freedom to play mid/hhf and they will instantly become the most damaging forwardline in the comp.

Nah you have to move on the scg to spot up targets...cc doesn't move enough

I would like to get a young KPP forward to develop. I think we are short on KPP. If Weitering or McKay go down. Do we think we can kick a winning score and who will play back. If we also get rid of McGovern. Maybe we should keep McGovern ?

You have seen the insanity posted in this trade period haven't you?

Same picks but Hayward Campbell for me. :thumbsu:
Agree. This is my preferred trade too. Campbell would immediately be our best field kick, and if we do nothing else this offseason to me the greatest need is to improve our kicking.
Doubt it happens but would be the standout option of those floated on here.

Can't help but feel there will be a 2026 future second rounder coming to us as part of the Curnow trade that explains the reason for moving a future second for Ainsworth. As we will also need bulk points next year for walker, doesn't make sense to trade that pick instead of 2027. I am aware of rule changes coming and possible that you won't even be able to use 2nd rounders to match a top 5 pick but just a thought.

Perhaps I was naive but all this time, despite all the ‘talk’ and speculation, I was not expecting a trade for Charlie to actually eventuate this year.

Guess I’m going to have to get used to it.

I’m actually disgusted with him tbh and his management.

Now the media are saying James Rowbottom is in the mix in the Curnow trade....
What do people think about James....?

Good player. But I'd be amazed if Carlton were interested in yet another inside mid.

We've been chasing what type of players in this trade period? Inside mids?

Feels like media guesswork with limited thought put into it.

His contract in front end loaded. He has an history of injuries. He wants to maximise his value while he can.

Many want to believe this because then Charlie becomes the money hungry player people want to think he is, Far better to believe this than admit that just maybe the club is on the nose with some of our players.

What have we done to be on the nose with Charlie? We looked after him and invested heavily in him to get his career resurrected after injury and further set backs associated with him not being professional. We then paid him top dollar and gave him security of a long term deal despite his injury history.

FWIW his manager has apparently stated that he'd take a pay cut to get out but we all know managers can't be believed.

I do not believe that for a second.
