Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Summary of the mail I received last night from someone very close to the main man at the Blues and has had direct talks with him the past few days:

• Sydney first offer to be buffed if not overwhelmingly good
• GW in the camp of holding Charlie to his contract if we don't get what we're asking for (still a very live chance)
• Charlie has burnt bridges internally, will need to earn back the respect of many inside the club if he is held to his contract

Charlie has unfortunately made a bed that he is reluctant to lie in, but may still be forced to.

Personally, still expect this to be done, and expect a big day of news today.

Lions just won the GF with no recognisable tall forward.

All their small/medium forwards have massive X factor and can single handedly win a game. I can see we are trying to move to their model but apart from Moir (who has only played a handful of games) and Williams (to a lesser extent) there is a massive class difference.

My point was more if we got the 2 1sts from Sydney we would have probably tried to move up with 10 and 11 to a top 5 pick. And then had two firsts already for next year (ours and Syd).

If we got a top 5 pick this year from Swans we would move our 10 into next year and at worst probably give us a pick that would land similar to a Swans F1.

But yes making sure we have pointe for Dean/Ison could be an issue.

I'm not one for posturing or needing to 'win' trades but the reality is we simply need to be asking these clubs to do more if they want Charlie.

"Butter wouldn't melt in my mouth" Mackie offering three first round picks without actually trying to do any hard work to convert one of the picks into a top 10 selection for us, Sydney supposedly offering a player that they have permanently banished to the VFL (who is on best 22 money) as part of the package... Not good enough.

They need to sacrifice something and weaken their team in one area, in order to bring Curnow in.

I don’t even think Charlie would be that dumb.

He knows we will trade him to Sydney, who are willing to offer a good package. He knows Geelong are offering up a package that should actually offend Charlie Curnow - “Like, here is some shit draft picks. This is what we think you are worth.”.

If Charlie tanks his tour because of a misguided idea that Sydney will withdraw their offer and he’s Geelong’s for the taking (with the same shit package on the table), then he will be returning to Carlton with his tail behind his legs.

Yes we would definitely try to avoid it. But when you're trying to bring in one of the premier forwards in the comp, you have to give up something of substance.

We don't need to copy it or directly replicate it - but we should take it as a bit of an indication of direction.

Our two "star" big-men surrounded by VFL plebs forward line has categorically not worked. Relying on one of two guys catching the ball on the full whilst feeding them with the most scattergun skilled midfield in the comp just doesn't hold up.

So the lesson needs to be... distribute the skill... have more guys who can do damage when the opportunity presents itself... have players forward of the ball who can win the ball in more than one way. A team where there are multiple players who are capable of ~4 goal days - on their day - is much more effective in the long run and under pressure than "we need 9 goals from Harry and Charlie to kick 12".

It is weak and unacceptable to only get 1 first coming back with Hayward and Florent... taking the latter player off their books, is actually doing them a solid...

I'll keep my powder dry until the deal is revealed but that would be a disaster.

I'm with you on this BF. It won't just be one first round pick. The club needs to be able to sell any Charlie trade as a win and after losing TDK and JSOS they won't accept a fair deal- it will have to be overs. We have maintained that from the start.

A good player, an average player (who Sydney desperately want off their books) and a first round pick is definitely not enough for our marquee player.

There is no way we release him for that little- it's probably not that much better than the Geelong deal and we already knocked that back. People are stressing this too much. However if it does go down like that.. I'll be in complete disbelief.
