And fair enough too. If he gets a run at it he will be a star. With Gunston another year older he is a must keep. (even though Gunston is seemingly getting better with age)
Lewis will already be 27 in a couple of weeks, he's just an injury prone forward.

Been out of the loop, so just checking in mate. How are those two easy trades for Trac and Merrett tracking?
Coming along about as well as North’s backline.

I thought GC had learnt... absolutely bent over

30 year old with history of injuries who was disaffected from his current club

And they have sold the farm

Melbourne have fleeced them
They sold the farm because they had 3 farms and can afford to sell one of them….

This looks a reasonably fair deal.

Petracca is not the elite player he was two years ago and I doubt he will ever get back to that because he is a poor/below average kick and he doesn't tackle as hard or go at the ball as hard as he did pre-injury. He is still good in tight and clever with his hands but he has lost a yard of pace and this has hurt his ability to break away from congestion.

He is also petulant and selfish and not easy to coach.

That sounds like somenoe worth an end of 1st round pick...

I don't think this draft is that good. There are certainly no standouts like Petracca in his draft year. And the pick swaps make this deal look better for Melbourne than it really is.

The Suns are hoping they can get Petracca back to his best but I am sceptical. He has lost a yard and aggression, and he is not a great kick. But he is still a high production player.

A history of injuries? The f*** are you smoking? He did his knee his first year and then the horrific injury in 2024.

Leave the football talk to the rest of us and just sit this one out.

Will be fascinating to see how he is used. Is he mostly a forward who bursts through the midfield when needed or will Hardwick use him as a mid primarily.

Seeing [PLAYERCARD]Christian Petracca[/PLAYERCARD] leave the club is genuinely heartbreaking. He’s been a cornerstone of our team for over a decade a premiership hero, a consistent performer, and someone who embodied the spirit of the red and blue. His impact on and off the field has been enormous, and it’s hard to imagine our side without him.

But as painful as it is, this trade to Gold Coast is the right decision for the future of our club. Petracca has given everything, and now he’s seeking a fresh start. The Suns offer him a new environment, a chance to reset, and an exciting young list to work with. It’s a move that makes sense for him personally and professionally.

From Melbourne’s perspective, the trade package we’ve received is a massive win. High draft picks and future assets give us the flexibility to rebuild and stay competitive in the years ahead. It’s a strategic move that shows the club is thinking long-term, even if it means making a short-term sacrifice.

We’ll miss Petracca deeply his leadership, his brilliance, and his passion. But we also thank him for everything he’s done and wish him nothing but success in the next chapter of his career. He’ll always be a Demon in our hearts.

This is a bittersweet moment, but it’s also a turning point. Let’s look ahead with hope, knowing that this decision helps secure our future.
