Would be interesting to see how Taylor could go in the middle if the coaches backed him and told him he’s playing midfield over the preseason.

He’s clean, good brain, good disposal. Decent attributes for a mid. We’ve just never given him the confidence though.
I’m a fan

I see a lot of Brett James in him

I know virtually no chance of happening but i'd love to see Max M or Worrell train and be given some opportunity in the midfield next year.

Their size, footy smarts and competitiveness already gives them a good foundation. Build up the fitness and give them chances.
Feels like the old days with organic growth and move a defender to midfield like they are a ‘new recruit’.

Worrell and Max don’t strike me as midfielders. We have plenty of untried midfielders we currently use as forwards like Pedlar or Taylor that should be deployed in their natural position.

I wonder if the new ruck rules will create abit more chaos and dynamic players like Rankine will become the new most sort after mids. I’d like to see Milera train with them

The new ruck rules are likely to lead to more certainty with the throw-up v chaos from the bounce.

Absolutely. People seem to always correlate lack of fitness purely with effort and training - genetics play a huge part.
It's like thinking that Gauss just put in more effort learning his times tables

Taylor and Pedlar are never going to be capable midfielders in this league. If they were, they would have blown through forward pocket. After all, small forward is just midfield-lite. it's the same skillset and the same bottlenecks to being a midfielder that dictates if you are successful as a small forward. The only real difference is that the bar for success is lower, owing to how inconsistent the position is, and it's one that can readily expose someone whose game is not in good order (something someone can skate through with an easier time in midfield, see Sam Berry this year).

I agree with both Worrell and Max though. Neither are good enough as a ball winner to make that step. They're interceptors. Rachele is the one that has a decent shot, though he runs into a peculiar problem that it's more of the same for our midfield mix. Guy who can do damage but isn't a noted ball winner, which is Dawson and how we want to run Rankine.

Pedlar no, Taylor maybe. Both held back by fitness, however Pedlar doesn't have the midfield craft Taylor does.
Pedlar does have something Taylor doesn't have too midfield grunt an burst speed.

Schoenberg still with us?
Nope but been on holidays overseas with a group of the lads and was seen training with them while away, West Coast it sounds like might be offering one of their extra rookie spots the AFL gave them on him so probably showing them he's fair dinkum?

Anyone spot Tyler Welsh, Luke Pedlar or Zac Taylor in that group?

Can’t remember who it was, maybe Jack Riewoldt, said that they’d turn up to the first pre-preseason training run knowing the cameras were out. And then not turn back up until the preseason started.

So much this. Has the ability to work in confined spaces and has good evasion and disposal.

We’ve seen him try and play midfield, he’s garbage at it. Has only ever been selection worthy off half back.
That was a long time ago

Have we? I can remember him stinking it up at half forward. Maybe wing too?

Can't remember any centre square time
