Not bad songs they just have better ones.

If i could choose Metallica’s setlist there would be maybe 3 or 4 from the current setlist.

Blackened into bells into eye of the beholder

Yeah was thinking of you. Hope you and your boy got to enjoy Seek & Destroy and the other staple tracks though.

Well, I have calmed down a little since last night. I will say that this - the opening 1-2 of Creeping Death & For Whom the Bell Tolls was incredible. Freaking amazing. I was looking at the boy thinking "now THIS is metal". Then it went downhill in a BIG way. Smothered in a wet blanket of intolerable MMM songs. Kirk & Rob's duet was cringeworthy and embarrassing.

Anyway, when they pulled out the classics, they absolutely delivered. Hard to fault the energy or performances.

Strong start - poor middle - strong ending.

And they were free pouring the vodka in the bar near us so small wins eh.

Went last night, had the early access pass so was very close to front.
  • Got a Metallica drink bottle and free drink with my early access. Free drink token is in the form a guitar pick. Kept the pick and they kept my free drink .. smart scam that one.
  • Suicidal Tendencies were meh, not sure if was the sound mix but had NFI what the singer was saying.
  • Evanescence were good, she has a killer voice, would def see them again in a smaller venue.
  • Metallica Good mix of old and new, the older songs got more pop that the new ones where I was
  • Enjoyed the, albeit butchered, cover of prisoner of society’s , have seen living end heap of times and always goes off
  • Good crowd, though had to put up with few campaigners aggressively trying to push their way thru to front. Had perfect position during One. Was about ten people deep from directly in front of drum kit, with Kirk and rob either side during the transition of the song to the heavy part… then some f-wit nearly knock me over trying to barge thru, took me out of the moment.. should’ve smacked him one

Metallica was amazing tonight! They have so many good songs, thought the set list was pretty good. Hard to argue with it as they can’t play everything.
Their sound and tone was spot on! Not sure what it was like seated, I imagine echoey or flat due to the roof closed. But quite close in GA, was insane.
Didn’t care much for the cover, but it was a bit of fun. People come to see Metallica, not a cover.

Yeah **** me Het has a mighty rhythm tone that's for sure. And yeah setlist not ideal for me, 5 from the first 4 albums really not enough but it is what it is, my voice will be ****ed for a few days so clearly I sang every word haha.

I like the cover they do, literally the only part of a live performance Kirk and Rob get control over i reckon and they do their research on local bands to pick. James and Lars no doubt need a rest, it's the only break they really get.

Power Metal is one of those harder subgenres to fully appreciate for me. Some of the vocal styles is too out there
Power metal bands live and die by their vocalists.

I never paid much attention to power metal until I saw Ross the Boss in 2019. Black Majesty would be my favourite Aussie power metal band, slightly harder edge to them and GIO has a great voice.

Ill always be greatful to see this band live, and get the structure they have made with their sets, certain songs stay, a few rotated typically within the album give or take...but I do wish they double check what they played last time in a city before they played.

Having seen the Perth and Adelaide sets, I just knew memory remains would be the Melbourne alternative. Really should have been king nothing in that slot.

Either way with the band in their 60s, will always appreciate any chance to see them live.

I saw them in Perth. I was about 10 meters from the stage. There are many songs I wish they played instead of a few they did but I have no complaints. It was a great concert and I came home happy I saw it.

I will say I am a bit jealous Adelaide got Leper Messiah. That’s one song I was hoping for.

I think this is the way we need to look at it really, I would have still gone having known that setlist, had a shitload of fun!

Controversial take.

Metallica should not be discussed in the metal thread.

Do we have a mod for this thread or board level woke poser mods? Happy to don my Black Magick SS shirt and play thread Nazi on this one. ;)

We used to have a mod here. Big Overkill fan.

dwwaino.

My main reason for going. May be the last chance to do so, and they were a bucket list band for me to see.

Black Majesty are great. If you could categorise them as power metal, Taberah from Tassie go hard too!
