Draft picks: 15, 18, 24, 28, 29, 36, 52 (likely to use five or six selections)

Gold Coast's draft is all about those bids. Where the bids come for Zeke Uwland and Dylan Patterson will shape how capable the Suns are of matching the next bids, like for Jai Murray, Beau Addinsall and Koby Coulson. Getting all five has been the aim for Gold Coast if possible, but an earlier bid than expected could change that. The Suns have three trades ready to go for the start of the draft to add more points, with the club set to get pick 35 from the Giants (in exchange for a future second-round pick) and 48 from Adelaide (for a future third-rounder) and 49 from Port Adelaide (also for a future third-rounder). The club also has picks 15 and 18 on the trade table, but at this stage there has been no movement on them. If an Academy player is let through to a bidder, then it would likely open up a selection for the Suns to use at the back end of the draft on an open pool player.

Twomey is usually spot on.

Suns getting Uwland, Patterson, Murray and Coulson (late pick likely) seems more than enough to me. I struggle to see Coulson playing AFL soon with Suns.

I do hope Eagles or any other team draft Addinsall and develop him. Good for him. There would very limited opportunities for him in the middle with Suns in the next 3 years. He does have a strong home factor. If he makes it I bet Suns will be knocking on the door in 3 years.

I was a bit confused why Murray and mainly Addinsall were ranked so low given all the talk about how poor the draft is, but looks like that has been corrected, much to our disadvantage.

You’d imagine Adinsall gets a look in West Coast’s midfield pretty early, so would absolutely be an ideal landing spot for him to start his career (and us if they continue this run of being utter cheeks over the next few years).

I do feel our academy kids have a great advantage due to training 1-2 pre-seasons with AFL team. Probably more developed compared to most other draftees.

In my eyes, all seem a bit higher than they should be, haha. But I am not expert and don't follow them closely, just VFL games.

I think we are a bit stiff with this being such a weak draft. Most other years Uwland slides after missing so much footy and Murray is bid on in the 30's.

I've still got my fingers crossed Richmond bid on Paterson after Annable and/or with their second pick due to us giving them overs for Rioli last year. Not likely though.

Really trying to get all 5 in by the looks. No idea what this equates to with all the movement or if it will make a difference.

I would say, just trying to make sure we get one of Murray or Addinsall.

If bids for them come as Twomey predicts (18, 19) - that's 1468 points needed to match both.

If Uwland and Patterson bids come picks 2 and 5 - then our current 3773 points cover them. As picks are eaten up later picks go up - just pure guess - it will make extra 200-300 points?

Today mentioned trades for picks 48 and 49 - that's approx 200 points, again going up let's say to 400. Deficit max 662 apparently. Still short of 1468.

Patterson bid could come earlier, costing more to match.

Nobody seems interested in 15 and 18 for points. That's an issue.

Can trade a FF2 and 3?

Picks 48 and 49 could be very valuable as I would suggest they might come in 10+ picks after bids for Dean, Ison, Williams, Carmichael, Kyle, Sweid etc.

Still need Murray and Addinsall to slide pass the top 20.

Yeah, I would like to know how many extra points will be generated by those picks. It depends when all those bids come. Too lazy to even try it.

We need Kall Burns simulator (mentioned by Cameron).

As always, our academy is being (probably, at least in my mind) over inflated. I just don’t see it.

Uwland after a year off shouldn’t be pick two. Patterson top 5, and now maybe top 3 seems a tad high. Ok… and now suddenly you have Murray coming in the top 20. A few weeks ago he was maybe cracking top 25!

It boggles my mind. Glad we are producing top talent. But it seems we get a different criteria to the rest of the league at times (cough Daicos—consensus for number one pick—at pick 4 cough) and our players shoot up boards where nobody had them earlier.

I'm pretty confident that Dimma wants to draft all five and the club will try its best to make it happen. One aspect of this situation that's probably being overlooked by the fans is that both Beau Addinsall and Jai Murray have younger brothers in our academy program. Taj Murray has already been named an All Australian twice and he will join our U18s team next year as bottom ager, while Kai Addinsall will enter our U16s team this year. So it's entirely possible both will end up getting drafted to us and we may have as many as three sets of brothers on our list by 2028 and they'd all be from Burleigh.

If there's any desire to create a family vibe within the four walls, then drafting Uwland + Addinsall + Murray on Wednesday / Thursday night will likely pay dividends due to their siblings. Adding the son of our no.1 ticket holder (Coulson) helps as well.

… and now suddenly you have Murray coming in the top 20. A few weeks ago he was maybe cracking top 25!
Reminds me of Will Graham bolting up the draft leaderboard right before draft night and to be fair, I think Graham lived up to that hype. He's been fantastic in his short career. So let's hope Murray lives up to the hype of a first round pick as well!

If you put Twomeys exact phantom into a draft simulator, matching the addinsall bid would leave us with a 12 point deficit
That's great. All those picks shifting up during bids matching must generate more points than I thought.

Is simulator available (except Kall's phone)? :p

Just for fun, I have just done simulation only for Uwland with bid coming at pick 2.

My understanding is that, every time the pick is used for match all remaining picks move up by 1. Leftover from last pick used to match generates a new pick based on points leftover. Completely used picks move to the end of draft (not sure about that).

I include picks 48 and 49 (trades prepared for draft night, Twomey). I did not include pick 35 trade with GWS, just saw it (Twomey).

I may be completely wrong, haha. Here we go. I didn't double check numbers.

3 picks would be used to match Uwland - 15 18 24. Leftover from 22 (originally 24) will generate pick 37.

Remaining picks (generated from original ones) after Uwland match (not including added picks to the end of draft, most probably don't matter).

28 -> 25 590
29 -> 26 561
36 -> 33 382
37 297
48 -> 45 150
49 -> 46 134
52 -> 49 86

Picks will be moving 3 positions up. In total extra 463 points will be generated.

Starting with 3773 points (plus 48, 49), matching Uwland with 2232 points, Suns will be left with 2200 points before Patterson bid. Let's say Patterson bids comes at pick 5, to match it Suns needs 1615 points. Still 585 points left for next bid on Murray (extra points generated by matching Patterson bid not included).

Obviously, matching Patterson will generate again extra points. If Dean bid comes before Patterson, agains some picks move up generating extra points. Then there is an Annable bid, and a bid on Swans academy kid before Murray too in Twomey Phantom draft.

Considering we will now also probably get pick 35 from GWS I am now convinced that we will match all 5 (unless my calculations are completely wrong and based on wrong assumptions).

Only one day to find out.

So Jirik13 When matching pics does each pick move down sequentially? So when using pick 15 to match, pick 18 then turn into 17 and you match with 17 then pick 24 turn into 22 and you match with 22?
