This has been some awful batting. The commentators go on about how exciting it is, but it's awful cricket. This isn't Test cricket, it's a few consecutive days of T20.

Australian top order batting continues its rubbish run since the start of the 2023-24 summer season. Our bowlers have saved us in so many tests.

I quoted some great stats from the main board after the 1st test in Perth v India last year how poor the batting has been at this post in Part 2 thread last November.

and then fleshed them out a bit to see how in several tests the bottom half of the order saved us as we were 4/for bugger all in both innings of the test and only one we lost was the Shamar Joseph test at the Gabba in January 2024.

I haven't continued the stats since November last year, but if I did, there would be a lot of repeated failures.

19 wickets on day 1 and Poms lead by 49. Some excellent bowling but more bad batting than great bowling.

After I saw a few games of T20, I called it beach cricket, because it was like going for a bash at all costs, when you play cricket on the beach with a group of about 8-10 mates.

T20 as a game has improved since then, but its had a big negative affect on Test cricket.

So many get out shots. What was Carey thinking?

Carey casually throwing his wicket away when he was batting effortlessly and Lyon was as resolute as ever up the other end.

Could’ve poked and prodded at least another 20-odd runs, but nope, let’s emulate peak-Deano on New Year’s Eve because ‘aura’ or ‘swagger’ or something.

Desperately need a Border or Waugh to clunk a few heads together.

And the frustrating part about it is that we all knew it was coming. Advantage England after day 1.

ll i can say after that day is the commentary is really bad on channel 7
Didn't listen to a single ball on 7 - Fox Cricket is miles in front.

Saw Ian the other day doing his usual schtick. He had that real old man sores on his balding head look. Its kinda sad. He is 82. Time is catching up with us all.
Tony Greig is the one I miss the most tbh he didn't kiss aussie arse (for obvious reasons) but he just made even a mundane session seem interesting, you don't realise how good some people were until they are gone. He'd probably be cancelled if he was around now.

I seen Chappell in his playing days , for all the shit he cops he never took a backwards step on the field.
If our batsmen today had as much ticker as he had in his playing days we wouldn’t be in our present position.

He and Bill Lawry together were the best. I remember the start of the 1982/83 Ashes - the Aussies bat first in Brisbane, and David Boon bunts the first ball into the off side and pinches a single. Tony Greig says, "And Australia is off the mark almost immediately."

Bill mocks him by saying, "How much more immediate would you like it, Tony?" 😄

At least Aaron Finch on 7 called out the dreadful get out shots that kept giving the initiative back to England.

I've never seen a fifer gift wrapped to someone so pathetically as it was to Stokes some of the most brain dead batting I've seen. As for the top order they are lucky they never faced Akhtar or Brett Lee if they think that's fast.

What a complete **** up - the opening batter situation was an amateur from Australia. How the **** could they start an ashes series with our main opening batsman available to open for the first innings!

Momentum is everything in these series and we conceded our momentum with some very shit team management.

I agree although Ian thinks everything is rubbish.
Nah Chappelli praises things that he reckons are good for the game or players who do play attacking cricket with either bat or ball.. He shitbags a lot of things too.

He is of the belief you attack with the aim to win from the first ball of the game, not try and get a draw. That's why he doesn't criticise Bazball. Score quickly and give your bowlers the longest time possible to get 20 wickets has always been his driving principle of how to play the game at the top levels.

Yes, the batting malaise that confronts Australia is a combination of too old, out of form or simply not up to it.

There has been a lot of media attention focused on Australia's fast bowling stocks but it is the batting that worries me. We seem to have plenty of up and coming fast bowlers but sweet **** all emerging Test batsmen.

I didn't watch any of the C7 commentary as a couple of minutes of their pre-game discussion had me searching for the remote, and that was at least 1.50 too long given Matthew Hayden's pathetic attempt to look like Queensland's version of JR Ewing with that ridiculous cowboy hat. o_O
