Got the sense that Massey was both surprised and delighted he was still available after the main draft - said that he was the only player they talked about in their meeting (which could have just been boosting his ego admittedly)

But listening to Clarke I felt that he wanted to go the train on path so Massey must have win that argument or presented his case strongly enough for there not to be one

The kid was clearly relieved but also very grateful for the opportunity and I doubt it’ll be one that he wastes

Also posted this back in June when he was in R1 calculations

For whatever reason I feel we’ll regret not drafting Rodriguez if we overlook him. I might be too WA centric with that view but can’t shake the feeling he’ll be a one that got away story

Seriously am surprised this guy made it to the rookie draft. I get the game appears to be changing and he might be viewed as too vanilla, but I feel he is a better footballer than williams and banfield.

Love this pick. Thought we would have taken him with 29 so to get him in the rookie draft was such a nice surprise.

I was watching the later rounds thinking that someone would nab him late and we’d be left regretting it later. We’ve spent the draft clearly with a desire to get some power onto our list.
Getting Fred here gives us something different. He can kick off both feet, can win his own ball and distribute nicely. Plus seems to have a really strong work ethic and I think that is more than enough to work with as a prospect.

It would have been such a disappointing couple of nights for him so really thrilled he gets a gig. He seems like such a nice young man too.
