Wait, the heel turn is a positive?! Motives made no sense and then it was simply dropped because it wasn't working. Mania finish was received worse than tonight.

Heel John Cena going through the year as a heel to lose to a face LA Knight would have been a great way to end it, imo. I think a heel Cena would have worked if he had the notion of doing anything to get the 17th title and then Grand Slam.

HHH is irking me more than Vince every day.

Hate to say it but getting that way to me also. Increasingly ignorant and dismissive attitude toward the fans (he's doing a good job of losing). Stale, boring, increasingly nonsensical and at times now depressing product.

Perhaps the new era is what Color said at the end - "tonight, professional wrestling killed sports entertainment"

...somehow I highly doubt that's the new era TKO want to go

Perhaps he's too chummy with too many, and also too subserviant to people above.

Vince was the ultimate power - he had final say. I doubt even the biggest names like the Rock would get away with starting a program then bailing due to other commitments. They'd be blackballed, and I doubt Rock and even a celebrity like Travis Scott would try it on to begin witch next his reign.

But HHH doesn't seem to have that authority ironically - wwe is more and more feeling like death by commercial committee (which perhaps is worse than the old "whatever makes the old man laugh and feel" era)

If they're booing the hamfisted way the whole retirement year was handled then why weren't they making their voices heard throughout the year and not when it's too late ?

Complaints about booking have been happening all year.

TKO approached the rock because of flagging tickets sales prior to a ppv earlier this year. He wanted Cody to turn. Hhh advised the reluctant Cody to refuse and Cena turning heel was the second option. The reaction from fans initially was that this was the biggest turn since hogan in 1996. Rock has gone on record saying his work was done. Afterwards the story petered out and Cena returned to being a face.

True, but they weren't as live and loud as last night,The mania Travis Scott debacle didn't get that much heat live and that was a far worse decision

While the crowd chanting 'you f'd up' was a bit on the nose, don't have a massive problem with the crowd booing post match. Was genuine heat and got the desired reaction.

Last 18 months ~ since WM40 has been pretty underwhelming booking wise outside of Punk/Drew. WM41 was a massive letdown, especially the main event and both world title matches.

That loss to Jey tapping made no sense at the time and made no sense now.

To have Cena turn face, and have some losses that mean something (don't think anyone will remember Theory beating him) and then turbo boost Gunther into being getting mega heat is a solid turnaround.

Just hope they capitalise on it. Can see Gunther being the Rumble winner and dethroning Cody.

IWC's biggest problem is that they are marks for their own fantasy booking.
My booking is better than the clown on one of those random Facebook groups that popped up on my feed who suggested that Cena gives HHH an AA, reneges on his retirement, and challenges him to Hell in a Cell at WM 42.

Desired result wasn't to have crowd turn on Hhh and chant "f..the Saudi's" and "aew."

Ending was actually pretty perfect, and it was entirely the crowd who ruined it and made it incredibly awkward.

First time in history I can recall a crowd ruining a moment for the opposite reason of being too quiet.

It's the children who are wrong..

Could've booked it better to mitigate reaction. Had Cena pass out. Allowed him to get colour. No smile at finish. Built program with Gunther instead of random tournament and no story, booked better retirement tour so fans didn't feel short changed..

Former fantasy booker will literally win booker of year this year.

Wrestling fans in general are becoming unbearable in regards to results and outcry over it. Cena was never winning that match, obviously he wanted to go out like that and the fans complain, they complain it was Gunther , they complain it wasn't LA Knight.

Gone are the simple days of just tuning in and enjoying what happened and treat it for what it was over the top entertainment. Like others have said the IWC are marks for their own fantasy booking and don't get me started on the word buried, much better time when the only time you ever heard that word was Jim Ross screaming Undertaker was burying Austin alive. The amount of outrageous claims that LA Knight was just buried. The man was on TV for almost the entire night, got destroyed in the old school wrestling way and is going to come back after some time away and get an even better pop coming back to get the revenge which is the classic old school good vs bad story.

Didn't watch the event just the highlights, got no issue with Cena going out that way, the end was fitting given his tag line of never give up, the smile was like I am done this is the end of "Super Cena"

Sure the event was probably a bit low key as a choice of the final event which would have been more fitting for Wrestlemania and who cares who was there in attendance or not.

According to WON, HHH and Nick Khan deliberately made the call to send Randy to Saudi as they didn't believe him attending would add value business wise and wanted the night to be purely about Cena, not past rivalries...

I'm sure Cena would have appreciated having one of his closest friends there for his retirement match...

Agree. Company rate LA Knight internally and are intentionally slow building him. Similar to Daniel Bryan. Could see LA Knight potentially winning the rumble.

Yep. As the old saying goes 'nobody hates wrestling more than wrestling fans'.

Don't get the issue with the tournament either. The "if I can't beat you, I can't continue" has already been done before.

Allowed him to get colour.

If blood is required to get a match over, talent aren't doing their job properly. Should be reserved for high profile personal feuds sparingly. Blood for this match would have been incredibly lazy.
