Only seen him on a highlight reel but to me he looks to move faster than you think he’s moving if that makes sense

Footy IQ. Gets to the right place a step before anyone else.

Went to training.
Stephenson is a no brainer. Good outside ball user with great agility.
Wehr has elite skills, looks a natural winger.
Brodie good inside.
Training was impressive. Structured and the players looked like they knew what was expected. Looked and felt organised.
Ball movement looked improved so looking forward to seeing that against opposition.

The other thing I noticed about Stephenson was when he was outside of the structured play, he would get trainers to work with him, handball and kicking. He just kept in motion as much as possible.

Brodie looked very fit too. Another one who moves well in traffic.

Are they doing any contact drills or match simulation yet? Would Marshall be involved in that?
Yes they finished the training session with about 28 minutes of match sim. The intensity of the whole session was really good and that was particularly true for the match sim. Some of the guys to stand out in the match sim were Lorenz, who dominated clearances, Visentini who fed Lorenz and Bergman (who was everywhere) in the ruck. Cochrane and Berry kicked a nice goal each. The most eye catching of all was Lai, who read the pay really well, showed excellent speed and kicked with great skill. Liddy had been a bit scratchy in some of the drills but was great in the match sim.

Butters, Wines and Marshall did not take part in the match sim but did everything else. Butters class was absolutely awesome and he was a cut above everyone else in the other drills which focussed on defensive structures called the Diamond and the Squeeze and rapid ball movement the full length of the field.
The quality of the session was miles better than any of last years training days where the over use of handball and short kicks to nowhere in particular was the emphasis. The field kicking was really impressive, with Butters, Lai, Wehr and Jones standing out.

Stephenson was impressive in the drills but was starved of supply in the match sim. He looks at home and I would be amazed if he missed out on one of the rookie spots. The other three train-ons had some good moments but Zadow was not part of the match sim. Zadow looks physically ready, Oudshoorn-Bennier looks to be most game ready and O'Brien looks to have a lot of potential (on field he resembles Duursma a little) but would need a little more time than the other two. I would pick Oudshoorn-Bennier based on today but that is only a small sample. Rome still lacks intensity but so did his brother today.

Nice summary. Where is Jase burgoyne lining up? Still deployed on the wing? Hoping he takes the next step next year!

Jase played on the wing opposed to Wehr. Wehr was dominant. The other wings were Anastasopoulus and Mackinley who both impressed. Liddy spent some time on the wing but was used on-ball for the match sim to cover the absence of Butters and Wines in the sim. Jase is a laconic trainer (Rome too) so you wish he (they) would show a bit more aggression but Jase seems to be much better in real game situations.

Watched the first hour. As others have said you can see the players have bulked up. Even Jase has a borderline physique. The players were divided into 4 groups. Two groups did high intensity handball drills. Not the usual two players handballing to each other. More like a match sim with players trying to link handball chains in a tight contest. The other 2 groups practiced hitting teammates on a short lead.

The skill levels were pretty good.

Thought the recruits looked good, especially Durdin and Stephenson. Our bottom six players this year will be a better group than last seasons.

How many years you reckon seriously he has left one ,maybe two at best ?

A couple at most, his body would be battered. Unless he likes playing under Carr.

Shame about the faulty ticker
Reckon he had an ablation this post-season which should help keep the paroxysms at bay from here on.

I think his durability will come down more to the rest of his physical health and ability to keep up with the speed and demands of playing midfield after 30.

His second heart op after the first one failed. Wonder if it's a retry of the same thing.
