Job done before Christmas. I have to admit that before the tour kicked off I thought Australia were in real danger of losing the urn. Hazlewood out, Cummins in doubt an unsettled opening pair and an aging line up meant Australia were under the pump. On the other hand England had bazball working for them and believed they had a point prove.

Nearly every move the Aussie selectors made has paid off. I heard an English commentator say the Australian selectors have had the 'midas touch' and he is not wrong. Head to open, Neser in for Lyon in Brisbane, Khawaja into the middle order, Alex Carey moved up to no 6, all have worked and this has more than compensated for one or two failings.

:australia: Australia :australia:

Since there was 6 draws in a row at Adelaide Oval between December 1985 and January 1991, when Les Burdett would build those roads, probably under instructions from Bradman to make it go 5 days as SACA and Cricket Oz needed the money ( and Warne made his debut in 1992 and McGrath in 1993) the results are.

Before 6 draws in a row P43 Oz W 21 L 13 D 9
6 draws ........................P6 Oz W 0...L 0. D 6
Since 6 in a row............P35 Oz W 26 L 5 D 4
==============================
Total...........................P 84 Oz W 47 L 18 D 19

Since those 6 draws 25 tests have been played before Christmas and 10 in late January.

This century only 3 tests have been played in January the other 23 before Christmas and 8 have been day/night tests

24/01/2008
Australia
India
Match drawn
24/01/2012
Australia
India
Australia won by 298 runs
17/01/2024
Australia
West Indies
Australia won by 10 wickets

Since the first day night test in November 2015 v NZ there have been 11 tests at AO and Oz has won 10 of them. They have won all 8 day night tests and the 3 day tests they have lost to India in 2018 by 31 runs (Oz chasing 323 runs), won the above January test in 2024 v WI's and today's test vs the poms.

AO has become Oz's fortress. The last 11 games at;

Gabba.. W 8 L 2 D 1 .........India and West Indies have won, draw against India
In Perth W 7 L 3 D 1 ........ SAF have won 2 at WACA (5) and NZ drew there and India won last year at Perth Stadium (6)
MCG.....W 7 L 2 D 2 ......... India have won 2 and a draw and poms drew 2017 boxing day test
SCG......W 5 L 0 D 6 ........ Weather has affected a lot of drawn tests. Draws India 3 and 1 each Eng, SAF, WI
Hobart . W 3 L 2 D 0 ........ The last 5 tests in Hobart going back to 2011.

Brook won't get dropped, but his mistakes in Adelaide were a deciding factor in the result. Khawaja made 77 after being dropped, and Head 71 - plus there was THAT reverse sweep. If England want to leave our shores with at least one victory, those errors have to disappear.

Did this English side just beat on minnows for the last few years or what? How are they this bad but came in with some batters in the top of the world rankings and deliver this piss

It’s the way he plays, supremely confident about himself, actually too confident for his own good.
You will find when he plays against the lesser sides. He’ll smash them all over the park and make a lot of runs.

Which tells me that this mob desperately needs a new coach - one who coaches Bazball out of them. McCullum is a muppet.

If they actually played some tour matches I think they come out a bit more stable and used to the conditions. Got it all wrong.

We dont really have anyone under 30 besides Green and hes been garbage. England have a couple in their mid 20s. They will get another crack or two and I wouldnt be confident in the next 5 to 6 years of Aussie cricket.

India is an interesting one too. Jaiswal is young and a few others are too but their bowling attack is aging badly. Their U19s just got absolutely smoked by Pakistan in the U19 final. They'll be dealing with that with complete grace, I bet.

I'm actually very surprised we rebounded from the pointing era so quickly , these steve smith era accomplishments will definitely inspire the next generation, Australian summers plus pitches are just so different to england they always get stunned

Which is why if they had half a brain they'd come over earlier and get some tour matches in.

They used to play 4 day games against our shield teams years ago.
They’d play at least 3 games before the first test.
Now days with players playing all over the place and so many more games now they run on a tighter schedule.
As like this year the poms came to Australia straight from New Zealand.
Used to be the same when we went to the UK, playing lots of games against there county sides, well before the first test.

The biggest mistake England have made is they labeled their Brand. If they just aimed to play with intent and look to win Test matches in the first two days, not said a word and been a touch humble, they would fair far better.

Once you label your brand and cracks emerge, people internally start to doubt the method, the madness, the philosophy.

Australia have always played with intent, Slater, Haydon, Warner, Head. However they have always balanced their attack with a view to be able to perform over 5 days.

There has been no balance to this England team, they are calling this era of cricket the False #3, but England need to revert back to a traditional line up and give themselves a sporting chance.

To be old adage ‘Bowlers win Premierships’ stands true, they haven’t a world class bowling attack, Archer is Great when on, but he has also cost them with a lack of intensity and sapped their energy in the field. Carse and Tounge can produce a good ball here and there, Carse works his Arse off but to many rubbish balls. Wood unfit hurts them. Their spinners are a disgrace.

There batting hasn’t been much better, but they have gone fishing at far to many outside off, they have continually played ‘out shots’ at the wrong time. Then they have deflected and run with the old ‘moral victories’ or whatever hogswallop they trot out. There is zero accountability, they is no self reflection, there is no spirit or pride in the jumper.

There was a question raised to Mark Waugh and Michael Vaughan in one of the first few test matches, Shield Cricket or County Cricket, well proof is in the pudding where blokes are hardened.

Also, shame Ussie couldn’t convert the 80 into a 100, or the second dig. Especially after the Bondi incident. Would have been great poetry, a man of colour to be the shining light in the True Blue Test match.

I am really excited to see Australian cricket develop over the next 10-15 years. Mind the spelling but; Connelly, Kellaway, Goodwin, Singh, Peak, Jack Edwards, Wiley, Harvey, Fraser-McGuirk, Beradman, Whitney, Vidler to rattle off a few.
