I agree - we've basically won this series off of continuing the plan and letting them Bazball their way into a wicket. I do worry that Stokes has now said **** it and taken a few of the players with him back to traditional test cricket (a coward saving his career after screwing over so many people), that they may win off the back of playing standard stuff next test. We are a broken team so unless Starc, Boland, Kez and Head can save the day, we're in big trouble.
Not big trouble, vulnerable but you can’t play bazball for 4 years and just turn it off. Stokes at least played normal cricket back in the day, Brook has no chance.

They also have no spinner, our spare three options will be way better than anything they have. Root is probably their best spinner on tour.

Wow, you are seriously hard of thinking.

He faced more balls than any other batsman on either side in an entire series, not a one-off match, batting out of position. But you do you.
Not sure what this comment has to do with the pitch in a one off test that was the point, but balls faced is a really really really weird metric to bring up. How about we go by average or runs scored which is you know... His job... The same job he has failed to deliver in for the vast majority of his test career.

But sure go off and get lippy for some reason.

His career has been okay as an allrounder stats that are comparable to webbie he is going through a rough patch atm and he has scored 2 tons and taken a 5 wicket so he has contributed atm it’s poor

Yeah has been fine, ultimately not bad enough to warrant serious criticism until recently.

An average career this far and in awful form warrants being dropped. Not sure why that was so offensive to grumbles but 🤷‍♂️

You can't do that either. Comparing them to all batsmen of the day not just their team mates works, and Martyn compares favourably on that score. He also scored at a greater clip than most of his contemoraries.

You're digging this hole because you started digging it.
No need to be offensive with your "Just a suggestion".

Someone else started digging the hole by rating him clearly in Australia's best 15 batsmen. Tell me out of my list of 30 he outranks?

How are we in “big trouble”? We’ve won the series.

Some strange data from hawkeye reckons the MCG wickers seams more then any wicket in the world the past 5 years
Bodes well for Boland

Which never was the case 5 years ago. I think importing some of the WA intel might have something to do with it.

To be fair what I’m hearing is we aren’t a great team man for man but were smart and disciplined.

Not a great team man for man is also garbage though

Okay we have some mediocre and old players.

But England rocked up with a bog average pace bowling attack, no specialist spinner, two top order players who average 30, a rookie keeper and their two most experienced players have mediocre records here

Even compared to teams from a few years back, it wasn't that long ago our home Ashes batting line-up included Bancroft, Handscomb, Shaun Marsh and Paine

Reckon archer is done for the series. Ditto with cumdog. Starc and boland have carried a heavy load through bowling & batting.

I wouldn't play jhye who is another injury prone bowler alongside them. Go back to nesser or Doggett who can bowl long spells if needed.

Also, who will take wickets for England if archer isn't playing?

Out: Inglis, Cummins, lyon
In: Smith, Doggett, Murphy

It is very different to saying we are shit and England simply lost it.

And you can't be serious. The 2017-18 Australian team would thrash our current side.

It's not as far off as you're making it out to be. Was that team better? Yes, but not by enough to suggest the current team is "not great" man for man.

The major difference is probably the injury to Cummins missing the first two matches. Lyon and Starc played both series, and Starc is a better bowler and batter today. Boland is not a huge downgrade from Hazelwood, who in 2017 took 21 wickets at 26 (Boland on 11 wickets at 28 after 3 matches)

Carey is clearly the superior keeper to Paine. Bancroft similar to Weatherald. Handscomb similar to Inglis. Head and Warner both averaged 63 in their respective series. Khawaja averaged 48 in the 2017 series and is averaging 41 this series. Smith was clearly better in 2017. Shaun Marsh also had a great series, better than Labuschagne this series.

It's not miles off that side that won the series 4-0, and a significant contributing factor to the side being "not great" today are injuries, not the quality of player.

This way if you wish ladies and gents.
