What a weasel. He said you know about 60 times. Admitted a few small concessions, said Ben and Baz are fine, threw most of the underperforming players under the bus and just talked about how hard his job is.
He’s a dead man and he knows it. ECB are majorly pissed.

This is way more knowledgeable and conclusive than my dumb campaigner comment deserved. Appreciate it mate and that’s a damning indictment on their current leadership. It makes absolute sense that a country with twice our population that is cricket mad would have elite talent banging down the door
I'm dubious about this tbh I've heard Nasser, Athers & others say the Australian first class set-up breeds tougher cricketers which in part would explain why we are so successful considering our small population.

Smaller concentration of teams in our setup probably breeds a tougher comp you would think I'm just musing though.

You’d think their county setup would piss over us with the right guidance? ****ed if I know
Like us they’ve bastardised the season to fit in The Hundred. County season starts very early, when it’s wet and finishes in the dreary autumn. The best month of the year is reserved for the Hundred. Counties are struggling to survive because of the bastardisation. They probably have too many anyway but good luck untangling it.

The hundred is a joke purely to get cricket back on the BBC.

They flogged off everything else and it shows

One thing I really noticed over there was just how often guys got to bat in a game be it club , minor or county .
Pretty much 3-4 hits a week in various forms and this was 20 years ago .

Here you bat less in games and I think that makes you hungry to get in and bat and make the most of it . Knowing you may go a few weeks without a match hit.

A lot less working on faults , technique at training combined with the above .

As WR says we dont want to end up there.

Its funny how the County cricket gets mentioned... this was talked about with Warne (RIP) + Vaughan on commentary during the last 2021/22 Ashes test in Tassie. The Hundred was brought up as well, knowing that it was made for a different audience (that is 20/20 in a nutshell to be fair).

Stokes' looking rough. I love that Fox Cricket is treating it like Stokes has just decided to invade the Falkland Islands when its a video from 2 weeks ago that almost definitely the team already knew about (not the video, but Duckett getting shitfaced). Even just the shaky press conference camera is ridiculous

He looks tired

I playerd Subbies with a young pommy lad who went on to be the CEO of the ECB and effectively invented the Hundred. That’s another story.

At the time he was about 21 and had played a bit of County Cricket but had been around a few different teams trying to crack it. He could seriously play. But he was lazy and lacked the killer instinct. One day we were in the middle of a bitter local derby, when our man did his usual thing of look pretty good and then get out softly. As he came back to sit with us he was commiserated by a few of us and uttered the famous words “doesn’t matter… I’ll get some tomorrow”

Our best player was one Test batsman Jeff Moss, who was a lovely man but he flew into a rage and gave the Pom one of the biggest bakes I’ve ever seen. He gave him both barrels about how we only get to bat 12 times a year and if you didn’t make the most of it when you got in, you would never go anywhere and that’s why England were no good. When questioned our man had had 46 innings the previous summer in the UK. It was stark and I turned it into a coaching thing that I’ve run with for well over 20 years.

have you spent any time in england? it's not really cricket mad over there at all. cricket is a minor sport in england, more on par with how i guess soccer is in australia. people get behind it while it's happening but a small sect of the population actually care all the time.

Nah I haven’t. I just assumed with the media fapping and a population nudging 60 million the campaigners might be half competitive and have half proper pathways to align with the media and supporter expectations

the media faps in every country... that's what the media does.
