Minns is rapidly becoming the Australian Trump.
He has announced today that during New Years celebrations in Sydney, police will be carrying long arm rifles.
He is also considering the possiblity of allowing the Community Security Group (CSG) ( a security group for the Jewish community) to be armed...in other words, creating Zionist paramilitary elements in Australia.
He is also weighing up the option of deploying the military to protect Jewish sites. Yes, correct - the army on the streets.

This comes on top of legislation banning all protests after a terrorist incident is declared.

What we are witnessing here is a time compressed trajectory into Trump style police state measures.

He has Albanese's total support.

Sounds like he has been bought off.

So we can have a queer army to "protect" Oxford St too, and I can see armed Muslims in Lakemba going down a treat with the Pauline Hansons of this country.

Keen to see a link to where Albanese has expressed his total support for what Minns is considering in this story.

What he has done, when asked to comment, is to make an observation:

“Look, my sense is, and I haven’t spoken to everybody in Sydney … but I have spoken to a lot of parents, and they would feel far more comfortable if there was a major police presence.”

“That includes with the firepower that’s required to confront some evil terrorists on a bridge in Bondi if those circumstances were to repeat.”

I'm not in Sydney but I would imagine that's a fair observation of what the general public opinion is at the current time in the lead up to the year's largest public event in Australia - the NYE fireworks display - just 2 weeks after a tragic terrorist attack in Bondi.

But it is certainly not the same as giving his 'total support' to everything Minns is 'considering' that is listed in that article.

What's mind boggling in my view is the sloppy journalism that has seen the Guardian line up with the rest of the mainstream media to hype the shit out of this tragedy. Not content with playing proper journalists and researching facts and using evidence based critiques of what Minns is posturing about for his own political reasons - they're trying to make the news by throwing up their own proposals and letting Minns bounce off it with the BS 'nothing is off the table' line.

Reckon this series of tweets sums it up best...(screenshotted instead of linked so I can get all the comments in).

This is crazy. I remember walking around Caulfield Park after Oct 7 and these guys were out in force. It is not right.

Police are going to be armed with machine guns on NYE in Sydney.

What the **** are police going to use machine guns for in a crowd of over a million?

This is not Australia. Some cultures might put armed guards out the front of every building they own and every event they have. We don't.
What Minns is proposing is very dangerous territory for the country and it will have far-reaching consequences on our nation from the day it is introduced.
If there is ever a cliche that is bandied about willy-nilly, this one hits the mark - "Un-Australian".

By 'machine guns', what specific armaments are we talking about?

For several years now, SAPOL officers are permitted under legislation to carry M4 Carbines, in addition to their standard issue pistols when on duty in crowded public places like the Adelaide Oval or Rundle Mall without any real controversy or incident.

This is sadly the world we live in.

Its an automatic fire assault rifle. People will call those weapons "machine guns" even tho technically they are something else. NSW coppers use a SIG Sauer rifle with a firing mechanism based on an earlier sub-machine gun they built.

i thought we were banning guns.

I've never been remotely interested in battling the crowds to see the NYE fireworks on Sydney Harbour, but if I were that way inclined, but felt a little uncertain about the safety of this year's event, I'm not certain that "It'll be perfectly safe! There'll be 3,000 police there with assault rifles!" would reassure me.
