It would have also worked in a zone coverage bail out situation where the defense would have been forced to spread just a little bit wider . It would have given Williams and the receivers an opportunity to find a small pocket , even if it was under pressure.

Underrated coaching (or just Shanahan being deer in head lights)...not calling TO on that final play to give Willians and Johnson a chance to settle down from the frantic previous play.

I can see why caleb didn't go to the back. There were 3 defenders in that zone. One of the receivers was accounted for, the back would have had to deal with 2 defenders .

His scramble drill was bit silly . He should have trusted himself to beat the right side DE , it would have opened up space towards the left for his receivers to cut back into.

I guess it is a learning lesson for him.

I wonder if they will bring in an eligible lineman in future games for these kind of situations.

There were 4 OL who were doing nothing after the ball was snapped, it was quite embarrassing to see.

Yep , he should have trusted himself to beat the right side DE for speed.

Having said that, the moment he committed to the left, that throw to DJ was never going to be possible even if he saw him. He would have had to target the back corner of the opposite side of the endzone whilst moving .
