The CBA says they get one full day off and one half day off per week during the season. And those are just days off from club contact, depending on the season schedule they'd be required to do some recovery work on those days off.

If they got one true day off per week for 24 weeks, that's an extra 5 weeks of entitled leave at some other point.

The players get something like 13 weeks of leave split between the three week Christmas break, and the weeks after the season ends. But again they would be required to do a certain amount of work during those breaks for fitness, whereas regular workers on leave can do zero work.

It's not as unrealistic compared to "regular" workers as you make it out to be

So they get one full day and a half off per week, so they aren’t at the club 7 days a week as you stated. What hours are they doing for those days they are there? All day?

Then they get their bye week off.

They got 11 weeks off after the season ended, back for 3 weeks and then another 3 weeks off.

Tell me, why back for 3 weeks and needing another 3 weeks off?

Ok let’s forget about every day workers, who get paid a fraction of what they get paid and get 4 weeks off a year, what about other professional sports? EPL?

Staggered anyone on here thinks they need another 3 weeks off after just returning.

Aren't the players at the club or doing recovery work every single day during the season including all weekends?

Seems reasonable they'd get a fair bit of time off during the off season
Agree. It's pretty much full time every day from February to September.
An extra week or 2 around Christmas is reasonable, and if they're fit for the season it doesn't matter.

Some other professional sports are year round. If anything the AFL has a long pre-season and players should get more breaks

NBA has like a one month total pre-season and players get about 4 months off. These are players who at minimum are earning millions of dollars a year

The argument here is they're doing something they love and get paid well for it.

Everyday people do it for survival.

As long as it's the same for all teams who cares

Besides, bigman deserves time for a round of golf or two and a few beers
Teams that go deep into the finals don’t get the same length of preseason in, other teams have trained for longer than ours. We’ve had 3 weeks training and have another 3 week rest, it’s not as if we don’t have things to work on ….

So we've had 7 years of extra training compared to the other clubs, no wonder we've been so good

Ok Dad.

Let’s compare them to EPL, about 5 weeks off.

Or compare them to the NFL. Many of the teams will end their season this Sunday and wont require players back until end of May / Early June. Thats almost 20 weeks off.

Each sport is different and has different schedules, but comparing them to regular workers is just plain dumb.

You ok for footballers to have 11 weeks off, train for 3 then get another 3 weeks off?

Sure. Why not. It's the same for every team.

Just seems like another silly thing you are upset about for no reason.

Stop comparing professional athletes to average workers.

Can we apply that to the army then? Oh no, someone was mean to someone else in a job where you face being shot at. But apparently that’s meant to be like every other office based workplace.

The great thing about Nicks is that if you have to pick the kids up from school or go to an event you can blow off training altogether. Although, that’s probably only senior players.

But we finished top. Just need continuity and we’re done.
