There’s an interesting interview article in the news ltd papers with [PLAYERCARD]Clayton Oliver[/PLAYERCARD]. I’ve always liked the guy as a footballer, and so I hope he pulls it altogether in life.

Anyway, I did have to chuckle. Beside all the platitudes about how great GWS is and life in Sydney, he managed to throw in there that he enjoys regular catchups with [PLAYERCARD]Simon Goodwin[/PLAYERCARD] and that he’s formed a bond with [PLAYERCARD]Jake Stringer[/PLAYERCARD] 😳

Jake Niall - who is usually a little more balanced...

2 things to note:
1) St Kilda president Andrew Bassat said in March he wanted the club to get off welfare, and the Saints would be prepared to receive less money from the AFL if they could play more games at the MCG. (BS 'blackmail)

2) CEO told Niall that SK will prioritise football spending in “both caps” (salary cap and soft cap) and then address their financial position (so they really don't care about the debt)

My opinion, AFL want SK to maximise revenue by having some extra games on TV (and betting agencies more betting opportunities). And AFL should relegate SK to Docklands until they can regularly attract crowds that fill it.

Since they dropped references to the Christian Holiday in their Member's Package, any mention when they were going to change their name to Kilda.

Football debt is something that the guy one (or maybe two) offices down from the current AFL CEO’s office will have to worry about.

Kilda have never worried about debt, particularly as they’ve only ever had to worry about paying only 7% of it back.

Hearing from the father of a newly drafted player to another club, the time honoured tradition of getting the newbies smashed at the end of year players function is still alive an well even if they have dropped the handcuffs.

I kind of though we might have moved forward but sounds like the AFL hasn't

What do you think our cross town rivals were doing way up north resulting in the sacking of a longtime high performance coach. 😉

Good! Nothing wrong with a welcome drinking session. More the merrier…until it’s spew time.

Not interested in discussing personal side of it (belongs elsewhere), but what effect will [PLAYERCARD]Lachie Neale[/PLAYERCARD] stepping down as Brisbane co-captain for 2026 have? Or will Lions simply transition into generation next, and still be strong favourites to 3-peat this year?

Hard to say if it should have any effect on the leadership side of things, he’ll still play a strong unofficial role on the group…

Harris, McCluggage & Dunkley VC’s
Of the rest of the leadership group

Berry : Great young player
Raynor : Match winning player
Starcevich : WCE
Cameron : Poor season
McInerney: Retied

They have a wealth of experience across the list with mature aged players games and experience played and the younger aged which have the right amount of games and experience behind them…

They’ll need to change and refresh 3 players maybe 4, Neale Starcevich McInerney and Cameron…

Ashcroft Fletcher Wilmont could be the best of the younger players

Gardiner Bailey Lester of the experienced players…

They’re clearly a very strong chance to win it again…

Carey/Stevens incident at North Melbourne caused a huge rift within that playing group.

Bit different when the other woman is a teammate's missus though. Preseason might be a bit awkward for Neale, players will be on eggshells a bit, but Brisbane are a well-run club and Fagan will pull them all together just fine.

Pies might now be regretting letting Mihochek go. 🤔
It was the right time to let him go. He will be missed, but his body is a little fragile and they must start bringing in some youth. I doubt he makes a monumental impact at his new home, but will play a role.

Think it is a win/win for all involved. There will be a couple of “hidden gems” emerge at the ‘pies over the next season or two, although I doubt it will be enough to offset the losses to “Father Time”.

There will be a cohort of players and particularly their partners who will be “Team Jules”. 😉

Sure, but on the track and on the field they'll put it aside and focus on the footy. Pretty sure Zorko had a similar situation a few years back and it doesn't seem to have fractured or derailed the club.

Not sure why oppo and casual followers are making a huge deal. Neale’s career is likely to change. He would be a loss to the Lions if moves on, but I am sure they are considering how to get midfield minutes in to their youngsters as well as some of the established senior types forced to play alternate roles.

The Ashcroft boys, Fletcher, Marshall and draftee Annable along with MCCluggage, Dunkley, Bailey, Berry and shock trooper Rayner give them plenty of fire power. If Neale departs, they may find enough salary cap to keep Bailey as well. Other than team harmony, the Lions won’t lose much sleep. They will find a new norm in the dressing room and settle quite quickly to the business at hand in ‘26.
