OK went & watched "now you see me, now you don't"

View attachment 2497248

Saw it at the pictures, which I haven't been to in a while ......AND, I walked out of the movie half way thru

1. The movie is crap ....the actors disinterested, and it appears they're reading from a Teleprompter
2. If these Directors want to continue using "natural" light which impacts contrast ....no-one's going to a theatre ....the screens are mediocre in size, and I swear, the movie would look better on my home TV than in that theatre

This is where the theatre owners have stuffed up in their battle with streaming
Admittedly, it's a long time ago, but the screens were twice the size they currently are .....theatre owners got greedy, by putting 8 x smaller theatres into a complex, where there would have been 2 x large, and 1 x smaller theatres, to maximise flow thru of theatre goers when at its peak .....fast-forward, and there's no WOW factor in watching a movie in a theatre now

Fix that, or you are dead in the water theatre owners
You took a real risk based on the reviews. A lot of people hate it.

Not sure I agree with your cinemas. Which one did you go to and where did you sit?

Size of the cinema is all relative. You sit closer in the smaller one and the sound is still big given it's a smaller room. Unlikely you're getting close to the same size and sound unless you have a serious theatre set up at home. Sounds like this film wasn't shot well for projection.

Also not sure I agree fewer bigger cinemas are better. There are lots of big scale flops that die off really quickly. If you've only got a couple of cinemas, you can have an empty building for a week without any diversity. Sometimes the mid level films pull in decent numbers. More cinema rooms also allows for film festivals and events, which helps them make money in this day and age.

Sometimes, if you love the subject matter, you watch and enjoy movies that don't rate well .....I loved the first two "Now You See It" movies, so was prepared to take a risk

I went to Greensborough, all the theatres in north/west Melbourne are similar size ......but unless you're a product of the 1960's you wouldn't realise how big theatre screens got .....it was a selling feature to combat the 1954 introduction of TV

Aren't theatres in a similar battle now with streaming??

To my last point, home TV screens are getting bigger, whilst theatre screens went smaller

I did some research, most Australian Screens range between 14-20 mtrs wide ....that's not big or has a WOW factor
Knox City in Melbourne though has a screen 28 mtrs wide x 12 mtrs high .....that's more the size required, and I remember watching "Lawrence of Arabia" and it had WOW factor

So how do Theatre owners get people back in the habit of going to the theatre ......and it is a habit

Well....

On my above points re getting people back to the theatre habit ..... we know the tent-pole movies (super hero) have bored the public now, and they were dependable B4 ....and it was felt people would see tent-pole movies at the theatre and most other stuff on streaming

Well ....have a tiered pricing system ....maintain your current theatre price for tent-poles .....but have $5 movies for other stuff
Get them in the habit .....get them buying drinks & food .....treat it like the old Drive-In night with the girlfriend / boyfriend

Empty theatres = no income
Full theatres = cash flow

And in business cash-flow is king .....then profit flows afterwards

It appears the explosion of Imax in the states is demonstrating my POV on the benefits of screen size and taking theatres back to being an experience

IMAX - biggest revenue year ever ..... just under 5% of total screens - but exceeding 15% of all theatre revenue

People are voting with their feet ....and remember, an IMAX isn't as convenient as a trad theatre .....so you have to seek it out

Adelaide has eximax at palace Nova. Saw Oppenheimer there. Pity I didn't like the movie that much.

Watched the Beekeeper last night. Jason Statham is a champ. Better than John Wick.

Beekeeper 2 coming soon.

Beekereper 2 coming soon.

Yeah, I really enjoy Statham Movies, and "The Beekeeper" was a good movie

One of his movies I prefer over the "Bee Keeper" though is "The Wrath of Man" .....but I'm a sucker for a Guy Ritchie Movie

Of the three versions of "A Star Is Born" .....the Barbara Streisand is easily the best ....the most recent Lady Gaga ranks #3, not adding & showing any reason why it was made

I think the latest star is born is excellent. Brad Cooper does a pretty good job of playing a messed up Alco and lady gaga really surprised me with how good she was. Ending was dark and well done

Have you seen the other versions though to compare ?

I haven't no. Just saying I like the latest one. Are they on streaming?
Not on streaming ....and sorry, there are in fact 4 x versions of "A Star Is Born" ....the first in 1937

But I have all the other versions in my 6,000+ Library .....I'm not sure TCM are still going, but the "54" version used to be on TCM

Further evidence of this growing trend to ACTUALLY make the movie theatre an experience again

It may take new entrepreneurs to replace the current stale thinking theatre owners, who are cash strapped ....but it has to be the future

If you have Foxtel, it's on HBO/Max, which is free with Foxtel. 3 different films.
