How?

They literally just said he is back running pushing for April/May
Round 8, but players generally play well below their best with an interrupted pre-season, let alone 18 months out of the game. I''m concerned - and that's assuming he has no futher setbacks.

If it was Bailey Dale sure but Lachie as solid as he has been doesn't command coming straight into the team off a hammy in humid Brisbane with no P/S matches
I certainly agree but our first official preseason game is 5 weeks away. Depending on the severity, he might be back in full action in a few weeks and play in multiple games before round 0.

I imagine Weightman will play a fair few VFL games , in a few months, but if he kicks a few bags it will be hard to hold him back.

That's my best case scenario. I'm not expecting much this year , fingers crossed .

Not sure why ppl think Bramble wont come straight in when fit. 1 of the most reliable for getting the ball out of defence.
Agree. With JJ gone don't think we have many real like for like replacements

Has there been any info released from club re unofficial pre season match against the Swans?

Is this open to supporters or closed door match?

Anyone know how Coffield is going? Forgot he wasn't delisted, been no mention of him here since he survived the list cull

Speaking of the Charlie, here's something for you to ponder.

With Australia recently introducing into parliament the prohibition of placing wagers on minors, what would have happened previously if this law was introduced years ago when it was common for minors to play in the AFL?

I.e.
Michael Voss debuting as a 17-year-old in 1992 but turning 18 in July that year.

Come Brownlow night (when Voss had turned 18) would you be allowed to place a wager on Michael Voss polling three votes early in the year when he was 17? You're placing a wager after the event had occurred (at the time the player was no longer on a minor) on an event that occurred when the player was a minor.

If someone could answer this before Max Darcy makes his debut, I'd be very much grateful. Thank you.

So do we think that Naughts sudden inability to take a mark was probably a shoulder injury?
He was equal 18th last year for contested marks. Up from 49th in 2024.

(Averages)

He pulled in 22 contested marks in his final 10 games which is well above his career average.

If anything I feel like his persistent knee injuries were more of a concern for his previous poor form. He looked unsure when attacking contests and it might have cause issues with his timing. It looks to be a thing of the past now.

I think his tentative form early in 2025 was more due to the glandular fever he suffered over the summer.

GF can impact balance and energy levels.

He looked unsure in aerial contests early in the season but was back to his old self by the back half of the year.

Injury, illness or otherwise. Its crazy how underrated Naughton is.

So crazy that I happened to hear DerWayne Russell prattle on about the top 10 players who could kick 100 goals or some such nonsense on his show last week. When somebody messaged him about Naughtons absence from the list. He said something to the effect that he'd given up on Naughton ever delivering on his potential!

The same Aaron Naughton who played the dual role of CHF working up and down the ground. And as our best defensive forward working manically within the 50 metre arc who kicked 60 goals from 23 games last season.

Its little wonder that I have utter contempt for AFLMedia and the non-thinking imbeciles who inhabit it.

Who would be our 5th best player?

I think the Top 4 are pretty obvious with Bont, Richards, Dale and Darcy but then there’s a few I think you could argue for 5th.

Naughton/Lobb/Sellwood/Libba/Kennedy/English

Freijah won’t be far away this season as well.

You’d have to go with Naughton based on the second half of last season I reckon.
