Just finished Hell is Us after 30 hours. Now I can go and read spoilers for side missions I missed/failed/didn't complete.

I was on the fence playing it originally because player reviews were divisive but I'm glad I did, definitely one of the better games I've played in recent times. If you're into exploration, puzzles and Metrodvania style dungeon crawling then I definitely recommend. If you're after a Soulslike (in terms of combat but the way you stumble onto quests and solve them is similar to a Souls game) or can't resist looking things up then I don't recommend. I ended up filling up an entire A4 page of notes and I still didn't work some stuff out in the end. My only criticism is the ending was not only abrupt but it felt weak and rushed compared to the rest of the game. By abrupt I mean I felt like the end was coming but I didn't think it would be right then and there. Still an awesome game though.

Just purchased arc raiders last night, find it little frustrating getting killed by arcs but I guess the game wouldn’t be a challenge if it was easy

Loving GoW: Ragnarok but **** me I despise developers that don't put in skippable cut-scenes.

I have known for a while that you can skip cutscenes in NG+ as the option is available in the settings menu and all you need to do is hold X. But I just started a New Game to test it out there as well and I am able to skip cutscenes by holding X. So it’s a bit weird why able unable to.

Maybe the option to skip cutscenes only becomes available once you have finished the game at least once, no matter if you select NG or NG+ for your next playthrough.

It gets easier once you learn how they work, and also once you get better gear.

Early on it's probably better to use stealth rather than trying to kill them directly (well the flying ones at least).

Also learn to abuse 3rd person peeking around cover.

5 or so hours of Oblivion remastered, haven't even gone to the second quest yet. Such is a Bethesda game, you just get lost exploring. I think I'll end up enjoying it as much as Skyrim and Fallout 4, which I want to replay again. And I'll probably try to go back and finish New Vegas.

I'm back on Diablo 4. The new season is great, already got my character leveled further than any of my previous characters in earlier seasons.

I think the last season I played was 5. This is 11.

Back to work next week and did my usual holiday playthrough of the OG Quake.

Anyone familiar with its development would agree this game has no right to be as good as it (still!) is. Early to mid 90s id were unstoppable. It's quite remarkable that they're still at the top of their game with Doom The Dark Ages. John Carmack especially was so integral to everything they did for so long. Can't think of too many developers that have stayed on top for as long. Nintendo? Valve?

Am onto the third episode of the OG Doom too. My gaming comfort food.

Have read Masters of Doom (focuses on the founding of id up to the initial break up after Quake's release, mainly from the perspective of The Two Johns, Carmack and Romero) and Doom Guy (John Romero's autobiography) and I just love that era of gaming. Entire genres being invented, brand new techniques being used (like sidescrolling on PC, easy af on consoles but difficult on the PCs of the day), and every scrap of computing power being eked out for performance gains. Legends.

GTA V Online

Read some pretty good business 3x 4x money earning chances this week.... funnily enough I've barely done them and racked up 2ish million dollars within 2 hours just doing my usual business money collecting and selling of products :D.

From 9.5 to 11.5 million, now down to 8.7 million after buying an arcade (purely so I can track business earnings and such easier).

Tainted Grail - This looks promising. Very Elder Scrolls-esque. 3.5h in though and I reckon 3.4h of that has been talking to NPC's, haha. Lot's and lot's of talking so far.

Really getting the most out of the switch at present with the big bash on the background
Smashed through TNMT shredders revenge and some Mario kart world.

Got about 2 hours into cyberpunk to great game visually on the switch in hand held. Enjoying Night City so many cool things to do / come across.

I finally got past the first few hours in Baldur's Gate 3 over Christmas break and am now nearly done with act 1. Playing on tactician difficulty which feels just about right, losing enough that it's a bit of a challenge but not totally infuriating (aside from when I have a miss-streak while the chance to hit is like 70%). The game is ridiculously long, kinda weird that I won't rock up to the main city until probably 80 hours in

It's so good though, deserved all the hype. Only complaint is the inventory is absolute crap, tedious and annoying to manage. don't understand how it made it past early access and years of updates like this. Might try mod it a bit tonight before I continue

Gone back to hitting the Switch (this original model) I've never finished Zelda BoTW and picked it back up again and I'm hooked again same with Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, its a simple button masher with a tiny bit of combat strategy required but I am just addicted to completing infinity trials and unlocking characters. Its taking me ages I want every character levelling up to the same so I can use every one during the story.............so a shitload of farming in trials and gauntlets.

MIO: Memories in Orbit

This game ****en kicks ass. A beautiful, spell-binding metroidvania, set on a space ship. Incredible art, evocative music, wonderful gameplay. I'm still early days (it only came out a few days ago) but I have that overwhelming and impossible to shake sense of wonder and exploration lust. I don't want to be doing anything other than playing it. Makes working from home tough...

It's really, really good if you like that kind of thing, I highly recommend it

Cyberpunk 2077 - first bit of progress since August and that was the Lt Mower stuff and forwarding on a message. I probably need to refer to a guide as I'm so lost and it's only early game lol. About 168 hours played via Steam and not much of it is actual game play, most of it just letting the title screen animation run :P

Top Spin 2k25

Been playing this more regularly throughout December and having a better run of online with the AO being on in real time. It's funny I have different players set up for different play styles, can drive other players nuts with how I run them around the court.... but if they fall into a trap, it's not my fault :P
