I have made futile efforts to find this in the past.I am trying again because it is an important stat that seems missing from football discussion.

Some olutlets used to publish median age for team lists but it seems they have all become lazy. Does anyone know if any website publishes it?

Median age provides a better indication of the list profile as it is not skewed by outliers. Collingwood will be grandpas either way.

Though not directly you could use wheeloratings.com and get the ages of each player for each club that plays senior games. If you wanted the extended list you would have to find a site that publishes the total list such as each clubs website and then pick them out of the state leagues.

Would be interesting to see a breakdown of the average:
  • age of Premiership sides since 2000 and
  • amount of games of Premiership sides since 2000.

I'm sure it's stitting on one of the various footy stat sites somewhere.

As of today (based on the age of all 2026 listed players on the first day of the season) these should be the figures for the current playing lists:
1772712069782.webp 1772712138681.webp 1772712232092.webp
For anyone not certain on what median age is, this hopefully explains it well enough!: https://support.microsoft.com/en-au...-numbers-2e3ec1aa-5046-4b4b-bfc4-4266ecf39bf9
1772691827929.webp
1772691905933.webp
Just for example, this shows the age of every listed Collingwood, Brisbane and Sydney player as of today (all have 44 on their list):
1772711704994.webp
1772692985580.webp
e.g. For Collingwood, as you can see it's 24 in the middle (22-23), so that's the current median age for the Pies list.

Thanks for this. Although adding in months would give a broader spectrum, it's not really worth anybody's time.

On the surface it is a pretty uninteresting stat but the mundanity is interesting in itself. A lot of teams are carrying just as many young players as everyone else.

Really when you factor in champion data averages, list profiles need to be broken down by segments to give a real picture.

On Excel I use DATEDIF to calculate the current age of the players, and of course it makes sense for me to display the age of a player as e.g. 23, rather than 23.29. It just looks more normal! But in this case it does make the results look rather ordinary, with way too many around the same mark.

So for fun/the sake of the exercise I've tried it using the YEARFRAC function, and this is what the results look like (as of today)!:

Just looking at the Collingwood list, you can see that showing e.g. Jordan De Goey (just days away from turning 30) as 29.97 years old, rather than just at 29, changes things a bit:
