3-4 weeks away from full training apparently, so still tracking for around that round 5-7 mark I reckon depending on how thorough they want to be with the full training.

happy with the 3-4 week time line to full training. still a couple of weeks of full training before the season starts. not as though he won't be running and swimming and weights and cardio and skills in the meantime. get him 100% and then unleash the beast !!! go tigers !!!

Yer i think they'd like to get 3-4 full VFL games into him.
With a healthy list we have no rush to get him in. He just needs a solid consistant period.

so we should expect a debut when do you reckon?

round 5-6 best case scenario?
if we are talking AFL debut, I'd probably go further and say rounds 8-11 approx

from a pure guesswork perspective with no medical science to back it up:

Rehab: 29th Jan - 26th of February
Full training: March 2nd - 3rd of April, thats a good 4-5 week block. maybe it needs to be more? that takes us to round 4 of the AFL season.

VFL games commence mid April, reckon they will want to see 4-5 consecutive games minimum which would take us to Rounds 9/10 of the AFL season.

Round 11 is dreamtime at the G, thats what I'd be eyeing off if it can't be earlier.

So close enough to on schedule. Good stuff. He's back doing more serious running. And his running pre Xmass should hold him in good stead.

And as you said back playing VFL about round 5. So maybe round 11ish AFL if he crushes the VFL.

Dreamtime would be a wonderful debut game.🫰

Will be interesting to see how quickly his kicking power returns. From what I have read he was running at full pace prior to the quad surgery, but kicking depth/penetration was well down.
If he’s smashing out 60m bombs on the training track by March, then doesn’t it then become a matter of match fitness? Maybe that’s to simplistic a view , but reading a report on our website late November it states

“The plan is for Josh to be back full training toward the end of January and available for match play in February.”

They tell you what you want to hear a bit and a bit of best case scenario.

3 or 4 weeks away from full training according to Yze, so that means mid/late Feb and probably rd.1 VFL which is fine. I'm pretty sure he would be doing some kicking so ticking the boxes you'd think.

we probably want to be super cautious with him, but I did a few quads in early training, admittedly never requiring surgery, but could do most training, just nothing at full sprinting pace (which was never that quick) and kicking was like getting a knife jab. so even though josh won't be back at full training for 3-4 weeks imo he'll be getting some km's into his legs beforehand.

Running was never Smillies issue. It was kicking anything more than 20 metres. As yet I have not seen any evidence that he’s able to kick a longer distance. He can get his fitness level up by running and other aerobic exercises but until he can fully extend kicking he won’t be debuting.

Still in hold pattern I think. I wish him luck.
