Any Mark of Cain fans in the thread?

Tue 3 Feb 2026

The guitarist and vocalist in Australian heavy metal band the Mark of Cain has come out as a trans woman, writing that seeing younger trans people live freely had “helped shine a light on the possibility that maybe I can finally be me in my autumn years”.

On Monday night, Josie Scott wrote a statement to fans on the band’s social media, announcing that her family know her as Josie or Jo and “given where I identify on the gender spectrum, I fit within the paradigm of being a trans woman”.

“As I’ve aged, and mortality is ever closer, I’ve decided to embrace, rather than endure, who I am,” the 63-year-old wrote.

Josie and her brother Kim have been in the Mark Of Cain since the band formed in Adelaide in 1984. Their debut album Battlesick was released in 1989 to acclaim, and later put out in the US by Black Flag and Rollins Band frontman Henry Rollins.

The band was inducted into the South Australian Music Hall Of Fame in 2022, joining the likes of the Masters Apprentices, the Angels and Cold Chisel...

“...TMOC was often interpreted as a very masculine, testosterone driven band, which greatly acted as a way of being as a ‘beard’ for me in many ways. Much of what was interpreted as masculine was often being generated from my internal rage about my own dissatisfaction about myself and the paralysis I felt in being unable to live as me,” she wrote.

It was while recovering from long Covid in 2022 that she began to consider “whether when the time came to leave earth, I could do so, with no regrets”.

“My answer was a big, ‘No, you’ve never been authentic’,” she wrote. “I knew I would always regret not having the courage of my convictions to live my life. Seeing so many young people now able to embrace who they are and live authentically without as much bullshit as existed when I was young helped shine a light on the possibility that maybe I can finally be me in my autumn years.

“It’s been liberating to finally live as myself albeit challenging at the same time, but the happiness I feel outweighs any obstacles I’ve faced so far,” she wrote...

Good on her!

I always wondered WHO MADE YOU THE INTERLOPER?!!!!!

Ha ha yeah forgot, easy to tell I'm a fan! I remember when Rob Halford came out, maybe 20 years ago I reckon, no one seemed to give a shit. I mean he is the "metal god" so maybe that helped.

I did hear him say something like he was surprised people didn't know given what he wore on stage

The metal community is pretty accepting of gay and trans people for most part. Everyone needs an outlet

I heard older kids saying he was 'a ****' back when I was in primary school! This would have been 85/86. For context, Freddy Mercury was never actually outed until after his death in 1991 but I distinctly remember hearing stuff about Rob Halford.

I remember Lemmy saying that all the musicians knew and didn't care, I remember reading the interview in Kerrang, was surprised, not shocked I suppose. Think he wasn't in Priest at the time, was more concerned that he reunite with those guys tbh.

Yeah same. That was when 'Ripper' Owens was singing with Priest, yeah?

NP Behemoth Demigod

Pulled the trigger on tix yesterday after umming ahhing for.months. Recent output is 50/50, but they put on a great show, should be good

Wish they would play some more older stuff, it's like their first three albums don't exist anymore, but they are still a great live act.

I plan on getting there in time for Nidhogg, too.

I'm a "live and let live" kind of guy, but I don't get it, and doubt I ever will.

I worked with a dude who made the decision to "transition". I don't understand what goes through a person's mind when they make such a decision. It is a head kick when you're looking at a man but they identify as a woman, and it is expected that you view them as a woman. I respected my colleague's decision but felt that using female pronouns was dishonest, so I just avoided using them entirely.

Keith Caputo went on that journey and became Mina Caputo, only to return to being a man. Gender dysphoria is weird.

Tomorrow night's show is TTTDC. They're supporting the Jack Harlon album launch on Friday at the Leadbeater Hotel. Spewing that I'll miss it, haven't seen Astrofuzz since they went in a more shoe gaze direction so was keen to check them out as well.

Anthrax - State Of Euphoria

1st Anthrax album i heard still love it.

Who is going to see them?

I got my ticket pretty early.

Hope they get a good crowd, but Festival Hall over here is >5k capacity, and they're asking $180 per ticket. That's more the price range for acts that play one of the venues at Melbourne's tennis centre.

I thought the price sounded steep as well
