I'm hoping Long devleops his defensive game. That's the more realistic way he can become a top-liner. To me guys like Dunkley and late career Cotchin are the blokes who enable the headliners to really attack and shine without the team getting hurt in the opposite direction. Stars around stoppage - without the big numbers around stoppage.

It was just one game, of course, but his performance against Dawson in the QF offers a hopeful glimpse he can achieve that.

Yep , played a ripper in that game , if he can get to that level Or thereabouts, will go a long way to strengthening our midfield output.

I'd expect greater consistency in his game, and an overall improvement as well - he's still a kid.

We haven’t had many top five picks, to draft elite talent. The FD are doing their best, as are the young blokes on our list.

Agree 100%. We haven't had the picks. We have done ok with what we have had and the youngsters seem to be giving it a crack but that's not always enough.

Freeman Scharenberg Stephenson all being busts was a massive massive blow.

I think its been a bit of a trend at the club. I suspect it relates to the age of the list and the lack of good youth. We have tied up average young players for longer than has been done in the past.

Ed Allen was contracted for 2 extra years in Feb 23 during his ist pre season.

Jacob Ryan was given 2 extra years in July 23 during his 1st season

Harry DeMattia was given 2 extra years in Dec 24 at the end of his 1st season.

At this point IMHO Allan is a some chance of being a 100 game player while the other 2 are very unlikely to add much to their current games tally. These 3 are entering their 4th season/3rd seasons respectively and only Allan is even in consideration for a round 1 spot. Thats not a good pedigree.

I’d be very surprised if the “trend”, is not evident in all Clubs.
I don’t think we are unique in giving time to young players.

Yes it is but they say it's open training session though I dare say like other Training Sessions there be some Match Simulation

Yes, it's Open training with food trucks etc.

I think the biggest problem with Ed is the supporters impatience. He's only 21yo and hasn't fully developed yet. The club would be patient with his development because he's not physically ready yet. Has won a rising star nomination. He has all the skills to make it but not the body yet. Didn't play much footy in his draft year either. We kept Pendles, Sidey and crisp this year because we have quite a few on the cusp but just need another season. I really like Prindable and Swadling but they would have to be outstanding this year to get regular games. Anderson is the one most likely to play ahead of all of them. Next year we'll see these guys demanding a spot.

I think Allan could be a an okay role player with his athleticism the issue for him will be justifying his spot when there are more rounded players competing in his position.
