Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn: Ollie Greeves

I have had a theory which borders on conspiracy theory. I think AFL had a hand in it given they earlier rejected the NGA request and then approved the NGA request for Cochrane on a similar request.

Given we all agree the AFL house puts its thumb on rules to tilt as they wish, I think they did do that here to ensure OG gets to us so that we don't kick up a stink over the next decade if Cochrane sets the comp alight( & OG did the same at another club). Other clubs are likely to join pile on if we kick up stink. A bit of forward planning by some genius at AFL House or a quid pro quo to HFC for agreeing to some AFL demands in the earlier clarko saga( the earlier NGA rejection may also be because we were holding out on some AFL demands & this was a correction).

That is the only thing that makes logical sense for the sequence of events.

Borders on conspiracy theory?

Looks like a full blown one to me.

Elite ball use and decision making.
It's obvious his running was the big doubt on his transition to AFL.

Lose weight.
Improve conditioning and endurance.
Let's see what the lad has.

At a minimum he's a high impact stoppage player with potential as a forward.
The Roughead role is my hope for Greeves.

His kicking style reminds me a little bit of the way Sam used to kick (very careful drop of the ball onto his foot).

Looks quite good overhead as well, that will be handy.

Don't think you are bordering but more so entrenched.....

You've left the best bit of your conspiracy theory out. How did the AFL manage to ensure OG got to Hawthorn without raising suspicions of interference?

Was his absence from the draft combine a ruse with testing data from his official make-up test falsified?

Was there a draft day psyop to lead list managers to believe he was a poor selection?

Are talent scouts actually just Russian bots influencing the draft process?

"These aren't the droids you're looking for"

If we have that info, then it becomes fact. I am happy for this to remain a mystery. Uncovering this does us no good.

Fact is if Greeves was given NGA, we would likely not have either of our top 2 picks in 2025(Cletus for one would have ranked him on Top 5 and made sure we paid up).

We have come out of this very well & that is all I care about.
Just randomly had a look on some other team club threads re their draft picks from last year. With the Scum couldn’t even find a thread on Robey, Farrow 6 pages and Sharp 8 pages …… on page 34 for a rookie something is seriously wrong with us 😂

I did this research when we were on Page 16 or so. Baffling that no other draftee has as much interest.
Even Josh Lindsay, even after the quiet satisfaction many eagles fan have now after seeing his performance in the practice game. We could have had him and eagles fans were abusing their list manager for giving up a F2 to get him.
Need to keep an eye on the GWS Oskar Taylor too. That was our pick too.

If we were Adelaide fans, it would be on pages 200

Don’t you try to tell me that we’ve pumped up any draft pick more than Robey has been by the Dons. One fan did an entire 30 minute podcast just about him after the draft.

If that's the case then Ollie deserves a full length feature movie with surround sound etc.
A trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson...

Well we gained GWS's 2026 2nd rounder in the Taylor swap and St Kilda's 2026 2nd rounder (via WCE) for the Lindsay swap so I'd say that the Hawks felt that they were gearing up for the 2026 draft rather than picking up a half back with great kicking skills. As it turns out, if Flynn Perez gets picked up by us we get a similar positional player for nix.

Even though there hasn't been a single proper game played yet, I feel like the 2025 draft period was a really good one for us. Getting OG in the rookie draft was the icing on the cake... 👌
For sure.
I've seen literal plodders recruited in the national draft with not even half the talent (Ben Hobbs at p 13! LOL)
Greeve's should have gone in the second or third round even with Qs over his running.
