We’ll have enough on our plate fending off $2m offers for Jagga from the likes of StKilda once they lose Naz to worry about stumping up $1.5m or over for Butters. Can’t see it happening also when considering Port can match bids.
Saints money will get eaten up once Tauru, Garcia, Hall, Phillipou, Travaglia, Wilson and King get to 100 games. They’re paying way too much to too few over the next few years they they will lose some quality players that won’t be getting their fair share of the prize.

Note - Mots was put on the Inactive List some time last month.
Reckon that was the injury time (Jan) and we only just placed him on the Inactive List to promote the 2nd spot.

Derka Derka only replaced WW as an SSP train-on for the 2nd allowable spot for the 1 position on the list.

Feels like some of us have become so accustomed to having two highly paid KPFs that we're tripping over ourselves to get King to fill the Charlie void.

I'd rather see a good sample size of how our new forward line works this year. Maybe we just don't have as much need for a second star KPF any more?

If we do need another tall forward, I suspect we'd do better to get a solid supporting player rather than a big name who will chew up a bunch of salary cap. Someone who is to tall forwards as George Hewett is to midfielders.

I feel that in the next couple of years we'll have to draft 1 or 2 tall forwards. H is 28 years old...

All comes down to how we play. If it is high ball inside 50 then we need another strong marking key fwd. If they can hopefully change inside 50s then we can potentially move to lead/mark midsize types. Cost less, more easily replaced/covered for injury and can typically kick better than a tall.

Wonder if the club held off on opening up the second list spot until now to keep the candidates hungry and competitive for it.

Think we just signed him via the SSP ;)

Derksen will fill a gap down back with HOF rehabbing, Haynes under a cloud, McGovern playing looser and Dean developing.

But once Haynes returns, and if Dean settles into a role quickly, I think Derksen will give Kemp a genuine run for his money as our second tall forward.

Wow an 8 year deal for 10 mill, thats 1.25 million a season.

I love that Walsh has done this early so it’s not a on going circus through out the year, but this is a massive contract
for a player coming off two average by years by his own standards.
It’s gotta be an indication that the club are confident that his body is going to hold up, no way Wright and Davis would sign off on a deal this big if there was genuine concern.

yes, Derksen should be used as a swingman... especially to create mismatches in F50.

I haven’t seen anywhere any numbers except 8 years, where are you getting the dollars number from?

This is the best part of this article. $1.25m is a bargain!

Rival clubs, such as Geelong, St Kilda, Adelaide and Hawthorn, flagged interest in Walsh last year ahead of his free agency year, but they were unable to get into the conversation for him over summer as his priority was to stay at Carlton.

Tassie could’ve come with a boat load of cash with thats all Walsh cared about.

Mackie Mitchell and SOS will have to find a new great white hope to go after.

Article on AFL.com says 8 year deal estimated to be worth over 10 million

It's a wonderful word isn't it..."estimated".

He stays fit, assumes the captaincy, hits all his triggers, wins 3 flags and 5 B&Fs then yeah, it's probably gonna get him over 10 million. And we'll be bloody happy with the price.

If he misses seasons then I'm sure the number would be a good deal lower.
