It’s the culmination of preseason.

A group of senior Eagles were unavailable to face the Power, including co-captain Liam Duggan (concussion), Reuben Ginbey (toe), Jack Graham (hamstring), Brandon Starcevich (calf) and Tim Kelly (hamstring awareness).

Brady Hough and Elijah Hewett both featured in a WAFL practice match on Saturday morning as they build back from respective ankle and calf injuries.

No Allan and Hall are real head scratchers.

Kinda hate that we’ve returned to a time where we have no genuine crumbers. Just KPF, resting ruck, mid sized forwards and small mids in the forward line again.

Need to be prioritising Champion imo. I see T Williams as playing higher up the ground.

Given Long’s injury, and our already thin depth, I get the need for auditions for all of the Owies/TWill/Macrae/Schoenberg types.

Given the dire ruck situation, I can almost even get my head around a run out for Barnett to see how it goes.

Individually, I can make the argument for insert player here over Allan or Hall. But all of that said, it does seem odd that both have failed to crack the side, given you would have previously thought they’re a much likelier chance to contribute this year than some who are playing.

I don't see why you've put Schoenberg in that list. He deserves to be playing, and will probably play R1.

Wtf is Harry Barnett doing in that squad lol
Barnett enters his fourth year at the highest level.

It’s make or break and he’s got to provide some return on the club’s investment on him. No greater opportunity to find some touch & build some confidence than the pre-season IMO.

Keen to see if Barnett can do anything at all

No Bo or Hall is a real weird one, youd think theyre both in that 20-28th player on the list area, so should be in line for games this year in some capacity.

Like has been mentioned in this thread already maybe its just auditioning as many hff/small forward options as possible before round 1, as thats our weakest area.
Not a huge fan of leaving out Bo and Hall they couldve played WAFL even, but it is what it is.
As long as Bo gets a few games this year im not too upset.

Yeo named in the middle, wonder how many midfield minutes theyll give him. If he can get a comfortable 65% TOG like he did in 2024, our midfield is actually quite strong, and bottom 4 isnt a guarantee

I think Schoenberg is a good chance at being named round 1 but is by no means a lock.

He probably needs to outperform all the other small/medium forward options named for tomorrow to get named

Players not named nor listed as unavailable so presumably played in the WAFL game, the existence of which is to be confirmed as neither Fremantle or West Coast have provided any proof it happened

• Elijah Hewett
• Brady Hough
• Harvey Johnston
• Bo Allan
• Clay Hall
• Rhett Bazzo
• Jack Williams
• Malakai Champion
• Tyrell Dewar
• Milan Murdock

The most surprising inclusions for n the 26 named would be Barnett, Grego and Tylah Williams. From the games played so far, most clubs seem to have sat 3 players on the bench for the duration of the first half or longer before inserting them into the match late. I suspect those three will be the ones warming the back of the bench with the likes of Archer Reid, Brock and Owies the candidates to be swapped out

Allan I guess has been left out to get a full game in after only playing a half against Fremantle- and hopefully on a wing rather than in defence

Hall and Dewar are a tad surprising to have been left out and I’d have preferred to see them in the side ahead of Macrae and Brock respectively

Sure would be nice to get some info on the game versus Peel - even if it’s just confirmation of who actually played

Regarding your last point, I think this lineup reflects some decisions made - Davis over Allan on the wing, Hall isn't breaking into this midfield nor Bazzo in defense. I don't see any of these as a surprise based on the intraclub and practice game against Freo.

As for others who are playing, I see that as a combination of some decisions still to be made (Brock v Young, Davis v Robertson, forward makeup) and giving others a go against AFL-level opposition (Barnett, Grego, Williams).

I think people need to settle on whos been picked and whos been left out. With 8 on the bench theres some that have been picked for the specific reason of coming on late once certain guys have playes their minutes. The likes of barnett macrae williams i dont think well see until very late in the game.
