I didnt realise Ryan was such a good kick. His combination with Nas is going to be a thing of beauty.

He's been playing similar to Max Hall for the last few years. His setting up play is as important as his scoring.

Can someone explain to me what all the underhanded comments were about regarding our academy? Hinkley in particular seemed to be suggesting something.

Taking the piss out of us whinging about others getting freebies.

At 3/4 time he had 8 disposals….

Of those 8 disposals he had, 3 direct goal assists and 4 score involvements 😂

4 disposals in the last quarter for 4 score involvements which included his 1.1.

Nuts disposal ratio to impact.

He is a knob. Owens and Windy were taken late in the draft and this was when we wouldn't have been able to match a bid to pick 20. Not our issue that no other club realised how good they would be.

To imply we have benefitted from academies to the same level as Sydney, Gold Coast and Lions is a joke.

Ryan played a pivotal role in the play that won West Coast the 2018 flag, took a big contested mark and nailed the kick to Sheed.

That's the only time I have ever barracked for West Coast.

Yeah I was kinda getting that impression but thought it couldn't be right because no one else wanted them. Really bizarre take from anyone thinking we're rorting the system there.

Both games have felt very RTB type of footy - during his best seasons.

Size clubs up for a half. Then see how deep they are willing to go swimming in the second half.

Dominant the clearances
(46-38 ✅ centre clearances 18-9 ✅)

Self less acts (one percenters 56-45 ✅)
Control possession (disposals 417-358 ✅)
Use the ball well (I50 marks 14-9 ✅)

Obviously there is Nas. Others can fawn over him.

I’m drooling over Mattaes and his…
29 disposals. 8 clearances (3CC) 6I50 3R50 6 score involvements and 1 direct goal assist.

84% TOG 😍

One knock for him is that I hated his disposal mix. 10 kicks 19 handballs. I want to reverse that.
Speaking of wanting to reverse Phillipous kick to handball ratio, how good was that bomb pass he kicked into the forward 50 that I think Owens marked?

Yeah, Higgo was gonna snap it on his left and thought Banners here’s your first goal! BTW Jack is becoming one of the premium small forwards in the competition and very underrated even by our forum here!
We just sort of expect Higgins to be a gun.

Because he was a shining light when we had nobody, we take it for granted now that we have players reaching his level.

The whole match is pretty sloppy but the Bombers are playing super accountable footy to be fair.
I saw their pressure rating was 188 for the first half so that half at least we got a very decent test and great lead-in to next week.

I’m just looking forward to seeing Ryan on Maynard again... Ryan is box office when he gets up the swagger

From a WA POV, this is exactly what I knew Ryan would bring to us.

His biggest challenge will be consistency in the games where we need him to stand up.

But i’m really bullish how he will perform if we’re up and about. If we don’t live up the the expectations of 2026 there will be plenty that quickly jump on to criticise the move.

Even Higgins who I consider to be an elite forward cops way too much when things aren’t going well, Ryan will be no different.

All in all, an absolute asset to the team for the next few seasons. Really looking forward to watching that intensity each week.

Yep, first match sim, he lit it up between the arcs, we were all surprised how good his inside 50's are.
On a side note, just watched the replay as we had a barbie today so only saw glimpses. Keeler was not as bad as everyone made out. Beaten a few times, out of position once or twice but really the hammering he was getting was harsh. He is probably on 700k less than Mackay but was better than him. All going well he wont be down back and can keep developing in the VFL.

Ryan I thought was good. But I didn’t realise how good. And playing with so much enjoyment. Quite infectious.
I dare say he’s a LOT fitter than in recent years at WC and he’s probably loving coming to work again. Unlike the last few years over there.

We may see a return to AA level Ryan!

My thoughts from today:

- I dont think I've seen a player make total dominance look as effortless as Nas does. Ive seen players have 30 possie, 4 goal games before. But Nas makes it look easy. He is poetry in motion, he is in the top few players in the league comfortably.

- Windhager is rising with the tide. Will be part of that half back / mid rotation with Nas and Flanders.

- Flanders and Macrae really fill the midfield out nicely.

- Pou is breaking out this year. Probably would have happened last year if not for injuries.

- Caminiti and Keeler will not be our combo, no need to stress. I see Keeler as a forward and Caminiti will have at least two of Wilkie/Silvagni/Howard with him and will look so much better.

- Boxshall and Wilson have hops. Was i the only one surprised by this?

- TDK and Marshall will be a good combo. We should have a top 10 ruck in every contest and at the very least a tall option up front to support Sharman and Owens.

- I am fully putting myself out there, ready to be hurt again. I remember after the Hawthorn game last year, I thought St Kilda were done. The Melbourne game was obviously the game changer, I am more excited than I have been since 2004. I am usually glas half empty, ive been surprising people recently saying im expecting top 4. No limit this year.

Actually I think he’s got a higher level to go to.
Before it was all snaps and fluke goals.
Remember “missy Higgins”?
Now he’s nailing the set shots too.
Had an excellent year last year, I’m betting he improves on that. Such a smart player.

Huge quarter for Windy, 18 touches
Last preseason was his first full preseason and then last season was his first injury free one, and he just got better and better as the year wore on, and it looks like he’s set to up another notch or two this year, and be an absolute ball-pig.

We could have multiple blokes with breakout or improved years (including even Nas) and I won’t be even slightly surprised if we finish top 4.

I mean if Adelaide could go from 14th to 1st, off the back of recruiting Peatling and ANB, and getting a full season out of Thilthorp, why can’t we go from 12th to top 4, off much better recruits, and hopefully a full season and explosion from Pou, and all the other potential breakout years?

It has a real 1997 or 2004 feel about it.

He gave a pretty telling interview after the game saying he's never been fitter. Jarrad Schofield, former assistant at WCE, has also implied in a recent interview that the Eagles don't train hard enough.

I reckon Liam is having an absolute ball with us. You could see it today. Was just smiling all game. Great to see.
