Autopsy 2026 Round 0 Carlton vs Sydney Don't ask me, I don’t know either

Unlikely to be able to replicate those conditions, unless we’re heading north for night training sessions (we did fly to play BL 2 weeks prior).
I agree with that , the humidity is different but we don’t play day games .. do we ever train at night ? Do you think it would help us play better if we did ..even when we go to Sydney we train do the captains run during the day..for a professional club wouldn’t seem logical to try and replicate the conditions and train the night before

Blue-eyed goggles on, sadly.

King is now flanked by Petracca & Humphrey, whilst McKay has Ainsworth and.... Moir? Frankie Evans?
Cripps is a 31yo and moving every bit like one, whilst GC have another Brownlow medalist in Rowell who is 7 years younger.
Walsh is a fantastic player - but again, GC have player(s) better in ther midfield - Noah Anderson, Touk Miller.
Cerra - a top 10 pick what? 9 years & 7 hamstring strains ago? GC currently have 8x top 10 picks btw.

Brisbane are similar - absolutely demolished a seasoned Geelong with a star-studded team and a 21yo winning his 2nd Norm Smith medal who they got for nothing, while they had 5 other academy/FS players collect Premiership medals.

Sydney belted us the other night with 5x of their academy players running riot.

Our coach is average, but our list is absolutely dwarfed by the Northern clubs right now. Worst thing that can happen to these young blokes is a feral supporter base expecting them to take us to the promised land as soon as we get a new coach.
Irrelevant who King is flanked with. McKay is the better of the 2 and does much work up and down the ground.
They have no one that matches of Weitering - nicely ignored.
Simply they are playing as a team and if our coach's are half decent, Petracca might have considered us and we might have not lost players of the calibre of Charlie.

Some posters might be feral but they don’t walk around with blinkers or live under rocks.

How is it irrelevant? Are you suggesting our list is superior to GC’s because…. McKay?

‘No one that matches weitering’.. except for a bloke who’s made the AA squad the past 2x years in a row. Collins is a jet and has been for years. Hes probably not as talented as weitering, but hes tougher - less brain farts too, has no problems beating his man most weeks.

They’re playing as a team AND they have a far superior list to us… courtesy of the AFL.

And yes, you do have serious blinkers on if you think all that Carlton needs is a change of coach. Seriously, no wonder our players melt under the pressure of our fans, the expectations are just unrealistic.

I'm just going to say this. If Harry is demotivated i don't blame him. Imagine being a forward for Carlton. Would have to be the worst delivery into f50 of any club. Imagine as a forward putting up with that crap for most of your forward career. Forwards don't have a hope in our team. Seem him lead up quite a few times but they chose to bomb to a contest instead and if its not that its just terrible delivery. Look what Charlie was getting compared to what Harry gets. Wouldn't blame the guy if he wanted to move on. Yes Harry could be more physical in contests but what's the actual point.

Harry is a highly paid 10 year veteran leader of the club. If he cannot motivate himself to try his guts out in the opening game of the season then we have a very big problem. I’m sure he’s trying but the fact a lot of people routinely question his efforts when the contest starts heating up is very concerning.

As for Charlie suddenly going to football nirvana at the Swans, the other night he got one kick from a lead which was the result of a really bad turnover where we got turned around and he was essentially unmarked. Other than that the Swans really didn’t deliver it that much better to him than we did, indeed I saw a lot of long bombs to stationary contests.

We wasted our peak years with a big , self -imposed imbalance in the list. The premiership window is closed, we either continue to reset on the run or go scorched earth again like 2015. The clubs obsession with contested footy brought this challenge to a halt, along with other dated philosophy.

I agree in many respects, but I also have to acknowledge that the rule changes haven’t helped.

It takes years to build a list and then in the offseason the decision-makers can sign off on changes that make the entire rebuild outdated.

It’s really ridiculous.

And that’s not even getting into the Academy and father-son bs that is seeing a more divided comp than ever (imo).

They are well coached. I’ll compare to GC as an example, Ben King is not better than Harry. Cripps is a dual Brownlow medalist, Walsh, Cerra, Smith all top 10 draft picks. Weitering is better than any KP defender GC have. Everyone was raving on about Haywood, yet in an average setup, he looks standard! The problem is Hardwick has then now playing unselfish team footy, something previous coaches weren’t capable of accomplishing. It’s not just the players….. Brisbane have nailed the trades and Fagan is just another great people person. They love playing for him and would kill for him!!!!

It’s not just one way traffic, we need to understand that comments by ex-players do have significance.

Are we sure about that? Right now I’d take Mabior Chol ahead of Harry. He has had a shocking last 18 months of footy.

But he won a Coleman once 6 years ago, therefore he’s one of the best KPF’s in the league.

We need to realize this crop of players are officially in the back end of the career. They’re not the superstars we hoped they’d be.

Move on and accept reality for a minute.

If we have a new wave of young talent coming through it could rejuvenate some of them. The issue is once guys like that feel the opportunity to compete near the pointy end of the ladder is gone, they are already subconsciously going through the motions to a degree.

Agree with all that Genius. But as I said, Kemp will never be a Fevola. He will be a very handy forward pocket for the next

five to seven years. He is not far off 25 yo, his best footy is still in front of him. He is also 192 cm's, we cannot expect him

to be the main man up their.
reckon he's close to 195cm. See him next to Weiters...

I feel a bit the same, but it's mostly because the league feels manufactured now.

Why would I want to watch the Northern teams just absolutely obliterate their opponents every week, off the back of a mountain of 1st round picks, academy picks and other free hits given to them by the AFL?

The next few years are going to be grim watching for long-standing supporters. Almost feels like it's pointless getting invested at the moment as it will be a long time before we can catch those teams.
Couldn't agree more. What's the point where just chasing our tails. The same with every other Victorian, W.A and S.A Sides.
We might think our young players are promising.
Yet other sides talent is so far ahead that for me. I think what's the point in being hopeful of us ever competing with these monster sides. Sad 😔

I remember thinking something similar about the Giants years ago and they still haven't got it done. They aren't easy to win.

Whist I'm listening to the violin concerto...

Not Freo, not WCE, not Port, maybe the Crows, not the Dees, nor the Pies, nor the Dogs nor North...certainly not St Kilda or the drug cheats!

Tigers maybe, we'll see...

We all know the non Melbourne east coast teams get a huge leg up... that's just the way it is...

Yep. It’s way too far out of balance and won’t get better with Tasmania joining.

If I was Voss and the coaching group I would be asking how do we build on the first half and develop a side that can play that way for 4 quarters and how do we improve our efficency when we play like this

Who on list can play this way?

Simplified but that is it for me
Hok helps - jumping 2nd ruck...would have helped to nullify grundy in 3rd
Carrol, Cowan - more drive from back half
Midfield not afl std- need a big bodied mid who can drive from stoppage. Walker alone will not move the dial
Fwd.line- Harry needs to vastly improve

Good kicker draws the lead

Can’t blame forwards when instruction has been to bomb it long
Lot less time and space in today’s game, especially when your midfield has very little burst speed or ability to break the lines.

List management & profile is a problem, if Voss contributes to this than that’s a worry.

I struggle to understand how people can properly assess a list when at least 15 of them still haven’t been given a run yet and have been playing under a poor structure

But that’s just me
