That headline proves that nothing is truly concrete in life.
As the year has gone on, the difference his presence makes is stark. Even though he was one of our lowest-ranked players in the semi-final, I thought he still made a significant impact at times with his slight shepherding at contests and positioning to allow a teammate to get up for a mark or spoil. This Friday is going to be one of the biggest tasks of his career thus far.

Brian Lake, welcome home 🥹

But in all seriousness, Tom Barrass is the closest thing to him. And for the first time since the 3-peat, I feel as if we have finally replaced Lake's impact. That performance against Curnow, someone who I still think is second best to Cameron among key forwards, will do his confidence a world of good. Battle will probably take Cameron again at Easter Monday but I'd be interested in giving it to TB at times.

Can't wait for the grand final when we're up 60 and Barrass produces a smother out of nowhere like Lake did in 2015 (might be my favourite footballing moment ever)...

In order to be like Lakey, Barrass needs to pinpoint team mates with his spoils. Lake did that with a regularity that could not have been coincidence.

consecutive BOGs for mine.

Not bad for a bloke with a bad back

Enjoy 18 days off Tb
It’s going to be annoying not watching the hawks for almost three weeks but can’t deny it’s gold for managing the playing load of the vets. Reckon Gunners and Sic will enjoy have an extended break as well.

Geez how big is the Easter Monday game going to be this year! Hopefully we get one of those beautiful sunny, clear Autumn days.

Lake also landed on his feet most of the time and didn't spoil his teammates. Love what Barrass is doing but he worries me at times when he launches at packs and lands flat on his arse every time. A few times Sicily had his man bear to take a mark and Barrass would come in and spill the pack and everyone is down and the ball goes to the opposition smalls. Still work to do for everyone to work well together.

I rate Lake higher than most, so Tom has a long way to go to that level.
