He aslo showed his lack of pace (worry given the game has quickened)
People are reading this a bit wrong. The quickening of the game is due to it stopping less. It's probably more beneficial for the endurance runners than the burst speed blokes. And whilst he doesn't look it, Dan has good endurance.

The replay on AFL.com just went up, Houston's first touch was nice to begin the chain for Membrey's first goal. Never paid much attention to his pace but can probably get away with it with his disposal. Love McCreery!
haha.. and Houston's second touch is smothered leading to GWS' first goal. I can see why people were off him so quick. That second tap, from Steven, nice

Our best key backman
Well done Billy as other fans pick fun at him on a regularly basis. He is underrated around the comp and among our fan base. He had 8 intercepts, Moore only 5, also took an extra mark than him but most importantly shut out their major threat in Hogan who is a gun. We have to trust him to look after the oppositions best forward because he can do it and many have noticed that Carlton don't often use Weitering on the best forward threat.

Without being extreme about it, Long clearly hasn't taken the next step we wanted him to. He's safe for now due to our lack of alternatives but he's not adding a lot.

If anyone complains that Fly doesn’t prioritise development or play youth, just look at Ned Long. We obviously don’t have a lot to replace him but there is a very strong argument that you could give Crisp his inside mid minutes and reshuffle the wings and HBs and we’d be better off. It’s been a long while since his hot form of the first half of 2025 so count it as 12m of development investment.

Where do people see De Goey best spot? He had 16 disposals with 7 score involvements but I wouldn’t mind him spending a little bit more time playing forward
As soon as he went in most centre bounces in third and last he got rolling.
He needs to be playing in centre bounce and then centre forward from there
Not just starting inside 50…
His clearance work in centre bounce with his explosiveness was a key reason we got good bounce out of there with him, McCreery an Naicos waltzing it out of there.

I thought Ned played well last night, 10 tackles apart from anything else.

the Houston “ throw” wasn’t really an error… the ball was just too far out of his reach to collect cleanly.

If he takes that cleanly and if McCreerys two massive runs end up in goals instead of a single behind, we win the game by 50+ points.

He had it, and lost it.

If he had put the clamps on Oliver or Callaghan with these tackles I’d give him a pass, but if you play at 80% TOG as an inside mid you have to actually win the ball in the middle of the ground and in congestion. Most of his touches were in linking chains as part of our rebound game or in the half forward zone.

I think it’s not enough and since we all agree Nick needs support on the inside he’s currently taking space without delivering on this.

I hope he can rediscover even just half of his early 25 form.

Nice to see Fly's nasty streak. Complements his caring, nurturing side.

In Rd 24, or whatever it was when he put Beau back on the ground against the Demons as we had to win the game. And last night, Moore was basically told to get is arse back on the ground.

Q2 Done. Thought Sidebottom was cooked a few years back, if there's a market for him signing an extension for 2027 I'm taking it. Looks great. Also, don't get the Ned Long hate, took an I50, goaled and smashed Stringer in about a 2-3 minute period. Frustrates me because he misses a few goals he should kick but I don't see anyone taking his place unless it's Perryman if Reef steps up.

Probably should add that GWS are pretty shit (with 8 outs). Agree with someone earlier who said their I50s were largely wide and ineffective

Only 8 CBA’s might suggest he had a different role last night.

Yes possible and thought of that, though it’s a bit chicken and egg isn’t it. If he was playing like early 25 there’s no way you take him out of coalface. And if he really was a link player outside of contest I don’t think it makes his disposal count any better.
