I can’t believe I’m reading this rubbish

You have lost to two wooden spoon contenders - WCE were younger, won one game last year and you were home

Honestly you live in your own bullshit - stop sugar coating Carr

Everyone predicted port to be 4-1 -nd you have had two embarrassing losses and beat a team who has lost 16 straight

You bag Ken and rightfully so - but Carr is not the saviour either.

Your midfield has been on the decline since Voss left the club, Carr was your midfield coach - despite the stars in your engine room they went missing in big games - lol now he talks about accountability

It’s the cowards way out to push accountability on the 2nd level players - your highest paid players went missing against the bottom team

If Carr was as courageous as you think - he would have held the leaders account too

This will divide your playing. Group

You got what you wished for - time will prove that im right
1st, Eagles aren't much younger than Port. Pretty much same if not more for Eagles in games played & experience. North were older and much more average games with their squad. Both Eagles and North have been at the bottom accumulating top talent for years now. That was pretty much Eagles strongest squad against Port with big outs in Rozee and Bergman and even Wines if we're being serious. Same as North having their best squad against Port. Port are in transition, those two teams are not.

Remind me again where you clowns finished again in 2020 with a new coach? bottom wooden spoon with 3 wins and your first win in round 13. Then you lot had how many picks from being trash?

You're an idiot with no clue.

I can't believe Josh Carr hasn't turned 13 years of Hinkley and Chris Davies list destruction around in 1 off-season with no draft picks.

Chad Cornes has copped his fair share of ridicule on this forum over the past few years, but he can’t be criticised for voicing his concern about the decision to play Marshall down back over Latrocious. He’s on public record stating it should be the other way around.

Having said that, I don’t think Latrocious is good enough to hold down any KP at AFL level, the guy is as resilient as a wet paper towel. Carr should throw him on a wing, & if that doesn’t work play him in SANFL for the duration of his contract & make Cripps & Parker pay half his wages.

This is why it was so important that we should have given Carr half the year to take over last year to see what changes he can implement in the teams effort and approach to game day.

Instead we wasted the year and feels like we rolled into this season with a good draw thinking it’s a walk up start.

Ignoring personnel on the field, the lack of commitment, attack and desire from the players is what’s really concerning.

First few weeks feels like the whole club has just rolled over to a new year without taking a hard edged approach.

Hoped and expected a much harder edge from Carr and not just take it in our stride.

What exactly would you want to see for Carr to have as you describe, a harder edge?

You're not going to see him blow up and lose the plot publicly at a press conference. Nor is he going to give the hairdryer treatment on the sideline.

But he has firmly put pressure on a large group of players publicly this afternoon. When did his predecessor do that, ever?

Can't say I'm particularly impressed so far, but prepared to give him the year to find his feet + hopefully a better offseason on the recruiting front than last. If results still look like this next year, then maybe we have to have a talk.

I'd be happy if id heard that they've told Josh do your thing for a year and we'll review it after our 22nd game.

that said, if only Matthew primus was given the same free ride as is given these days.

at the end of the day we cant escape the fact that Josh Carr was our midfield coach and has been here for a few years. and had a hand in players on our list.

Exhibit A: Jayden Stephenson

Exhibit B: Jackson Mead

It's not looking good so far

There's basically 2 scenarios with an outgoing coach:

- coach moves out on top, their message is still getting through to the players, so a successor rises from inside to continue their ideas and build upon them for future success.

- coach moves out on the downhill slide / at the bottom, their message isn't getting through or has gotten stale, so a successor with fresh ideas and a completely new voice and opinions is brought in from the outside.

We've seemingly taken the downhill slide stale message bit and combined it with the successor from the inside bit. The worst of both worlds essentially.

It feels a bit like a hiding to nothing. The same players are showing the same cracks. The top end Butters / JHF / crew, the middle of the road crew, the plodders are all just doing the same thing. Can Carr turn it around? I'm sure he can. But **** it's a hard starting point and early signs aren't particularly promising.

That all being said I'm not sure exactly where the improvement comes from this year because the cupboard is pretty bare

Could have worded that last line better, by a harder edge from Carr I am referring to the whole team as Carrs team.

The first few weeks have seen constant broken tackles, average body language and players not putting in the hard yards to pressure the opposition.

This is the complete opposite to the hard edge type player Carr was known for and I was hoping to see that implemented into our game style more.

Yes it will take time but that’s where it would have been beneficial to see for half a season last year and see if he could bring that edge to the team.

The squad is lacking which is fine given where we’re at but so is the game day effort, that’s not fine from the playing group.

This is one occasion where the coach cant kick it for em is apt.

Mitch and Co had brick hands nearly all day, is Dizon mentoring them?

The players were trying to spot leads but just couldn't execute, our skills were average. West Coast hunt was good, good on em

I think it would have been a waste to put him in there in the middle of last year, because then he's trying to put back together a lot of broken pieces on the fly whilst working with an assistant coaching group that was not of his choosing. At least by coming in as head coach at the start of the off season, it offered a fresh start for everyone.

I've harped on this for a little while, but Carr is really trying to develop a culture that is player driven. That is, letting them own their mistakes, letting them figure things out for themselves without constantly having to look to the sideline with every ball movement as what was happening under Hinkley. It is a completely different style, and part of that change is going to be seeing quite a few players struggle because they're out there in the deep water with no floaties and they're drowning. And I think it's going to take quite a few players to drown in order to harden the team up a bit. So, I'm not surprised they're struggling. I said a few weeks ago I would expect no more than 10 wins - and I'm now thinking I was probably a bit generous with that number.

At the same time, like you, I want them to be sticking their tackles better and doing some of the little things better. I don't think today's game was lost due to a lack of application, though. I don't think the players knew how to wrestle momentum back when they got hit in the midfield particularly in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

I hope this is a learning experience for them. Time will tell as to whether it is (or isn't).
