Do you think the AFL should bring in a penalty for taunting?

But Stevens never had any contact in his career
Well then he won't receive any compensation. Each player will have to prove they had been concussed multiple times to qualify you would think.

Yay...VFL fixturing is great isn't it

Yeah but who would've known by November last year that Carlton, Richmond and Essendon would all be arse and suck the life out of primetime games?

Decisions that they made prior to the preseason starting didn’t include the now known reality that they’re 1-2 against 3 of last years bottom 4, having played 2 at home. Things change and with band 1 FA compo coming up, there’s little value in striving for 13th. And we’ve just seen Nicks last 7 seasons taking a team from 10th to spoon. They’d be mad to not be exposing youth, ruling a line through the plodders and wearing a button 2-3 finish. The crowds won’t turn up anyway, they’re done, might as well salvage something.

full on tank mode would be smart for them. get their first pick and butters compo before the bid for cochrane.

I'm worried that they're starting to look a bit too shit

In a shattering blow for the duo, the Australian Financial Complaints Authority has recently sided in favour of insurance giant, Zurich, on Seedsman and Murphy’s claims.

The decision, which has cost the pair hundreds of thousands of dollars, was made on their ability to perform basic daily activities and not whether they were forced to retire from AFL.

It is a sobering outcome for the AFL playing cohort as former Melbourne premiership midfielder Angus Brayshaw reaches the final stages of his claim which the Herald Sun revealed included his wedding photos and Brownlow Medal night speech being used against him.

Seedsman, 34, is not prepared to undergo more testing due to the heavy toll the years-long process has taken on him since he retired from the game with horrific concussion symptoms in 2021

This exact scenario is what the AFL would have been terrified of. Now the onus lands squarely at the feet of the AFL in regards to lifetime concussion management for player's, with the insurance companies now wiping their hands of any level of responsibility or willingness to provide cover against head trauma.

Players will simply follow the money

How many amateur players have sued for compensation, where we know more concussions occur in local footy ......hardly any I've heard about ....reason: there's no money available to chase

Record TV rights deals will always attract those who want their rightful slice of the cake

Will the media put the same spotlight onto ESS that they did with us ......nah, they've moved onto the next clickbait issue .....you won't hear a peep about it

They can’t be serious

The only place Gather Round will work for ether the men’s league or women league is Melbourne or Adelaide

Perth is far too far. Sydney doesn’t have the supporter base, Tasmania doesn’t have the infrastructure and Queensland will only support the Lions and Suns.

Any gather round in Sydney will be a disaster. Empty stadium and boring games.

So they don’t want any crowds or atmosphere...
Tbh I don’t think anyone is traveling to adelaide to an AFLW gather round either, especially with fuel atm.

In a sensible organisation, they would have a transition period from the old system to the new one, so the clubs this year are only slightly disadvantaged compared to last year, then next year slightly more disadvantaged again, and sonon for a few years. So that way clubs don't feel like the rug has been pulled just as they were about to benefit from the system, and those with potential F/S options coming through in a few years can plan accordingly.

But no, let's just have a few clubs benefit enormously for several years and then immediately turn off the spigot for the next clubs in line.

I’m so sick of all the talk of academy and constant compromising of the draft.

If the new rules are so bad, clubs with academy players can still:
  • Guarantee to draft them by going into deficit
  • Have or get the natural pick and draft them where they land properly (aka a regular drafted player)
  • Decide it’s not worth it and pass and draft someone else

It sucks that other clubs have been ruining the draft for the last few years, but glad they’re finally trying to address it.

If it’s going to cost Port a fortune to draft Cochrane, no one is forcing them to get him.

Now that we have pick trading there is no need for the father son rule at all. If you want the player bad enough, you can trade up to get them. Every player in the draft is available to every club, if they are prepared to pay fair value.

When people say they want the romance, these days what they really mean is a top end player on the cheap.

Let's be real, the 'disadvantaged' clubs are not concerned they will miss out on their player. They are concerned that they don't get to rort the system, where they get a top pick in before their player etc.

Under the new system they will simply be asked to pay something close to what it really would cost them, to trade up to the bid position, in a real life trade.
