thats a bit harsh (but agree he has lost a yard of pace with all the injuries.) milera has been good to very good this year, one of our better players to the eye and player ratings.
I dont think its injuries

His last 15 games have been high level

I just think its coached out of him - plus I think he misses Lairds pass offs

Plenty of talk about Nicks and the press conference quotes which highlight how we want to play. And fair enough. But the other damning thing he said during that press conference which I have not seen mentioned yet was when he referred to having continuity with our playing 23 and the requirement for connection and cohesion. There’s your answer when people wonder about selection integrity. Nicks has a one track mind when it comes to how our side needs to look and he ain’t gonna change. The second Laird can get back, he’s straight back in. Other players bang down the door demanding selection only to never get picked. There’s your answer. Why don’t we try another runner off a half back flank ?? That is why !!!
Nothing new unfortunately. And it won't change until the arseh*le sitting on the coach's chair changes.

Senior player struggling? Back them in. They need continuity to perform.
Junior player took half a game to get up to the speed of AFL? Sorry son. We need more instant results than that. Back to "working on" things in the SANFL.

Many have said he permanent textas his 23 on the board in January and it's 100% right. If you're not in that 23 your best hope is a best 23 player gets injured and he has no choice. But even then you're still only a fill in.

You're going to find it very hard to walk away from all your obvious claptrap towards Sid Draper ...ffs he didn't even play last night but still you bang on and on.
Because it’s so damn frustrating that we can’t nail a midfield draft pick. And please don’t tell me we haven’t seen him. The same knocks he had a junior are plain to see. But, yes, I should prob keep my opinion to myself. I’ve said it enough. I’ll give you that.

ROB nothing but a big fking diplodocus with more sht on his boot than the Ganges. NEVER AGAIN NICKS!!!!

Borlase and Jones slower than continental drift. Like jealous of it.

Just like the dogs game but more painful
Bloody love an accurate dinosaur comparison.

For anyone not up to speed on dino facts, the diplodocus is one of the longest dinosaurs and its body is so long they say it would take a second to react to something biting its tail, half a second for the signal to reach its brain and half a second for the signal to go back and move its tail.

Yet to confirm how long it took Rob to realise he'd kicked it directly into the man on the mark's hands.

Ugly: Me thinking that when we have a Good Friday fixture, we should erect four large crosses next to the Umpires entrance (and have a few spikes nearby)

He was pantsed.

Adelaide haven’t had a good ruckman since Rehn.

Just like we haven’t had a good midfield since the early 2000’s
Suggest you watch the game again sober.

It's laughable you are doubling down criticising McAndrew who was decent, yet silent about ROB, who was ordinary.

There are some degenerate freaks in the eastern stand that always cheer ROB extra hard, they were chanting "Sign him up" last year. These people should be on a list, or watched by the authorities. At the very least their carers should make sure they behave themselves.

If you're one of these wastes of oxygen and you are reading this, please stop coming to games.
Opposition supporters?. Port supporters coming down to hate watch?

Dawson, Rankine, Rachele?
They're not full time ball winning mids that can run both ways.

Dawson should be on a wing and Rankine and Rachele should be forward flankers pinch hitting in the middle.

We've put them in the middle because they're skillful players, not because they're bulls with a massive tank.

I think we've gotten the most clarity on his gameplan today.

Nicks doesn't believe you earn the right to play fast from defense. He believes fast play happens from winning the contest and winning the midfield, as that gives your forwards the best chance.

He also said there's things you need to do in defense to avoid losing by 100

This is exactly how we play.

To win the midfield and earn the right to play fast, we move the ball slowly from defense, along the wing or kicking long to contests. This gives us the best chance at a stoppage, or getting the ball into the middle third of the ground, where we can "win the right" for fast play again.

This also protects us from turnovers in the defensive half that are highly damaging. We don't earn the right for ball movement in that zone, so don't do it, don't open us up for scores against. Get the ball up the ground, get a stoppage, earn the right.

When you think of it like that, it's bloody obvious what we are doing.

When Nicks claims we aren't chipping sideways on purpose he means it. He wants the players to get the ball up the field to earn the right, through precision boundary kicks. When we chip sideways it's because there is no good option to do that, so we switch side to side to find those kicks. Opponents that shut those options down stifle us.
Translated...we miss Dan Curtin is the outlet kick on the wing

From my perspective there were two glaring issues that desperately need to be addressed from last night. The big one is our midfield. There’s no flow and very little run and carry. Soligo has been off his game and Berry lacks that bit of polish. Rankine went missing and Rachele is still getting used to being a midfielder, but they aren’t quite functioning the way we need them to. The other issue is our long big kicks out of defence. Freo were happy to bring the ball to ground, in fact there were times they did that when they didn’t need to which made me wonder if focusing on loose ball gets is part of their strategy. They do have some wonderful midfielders who crumb the ball very well and then take off. But kicking long and high out of defence has become our standard play and it’s not working because we’re definitely not scoring on the rebound. There were times when Tex was in his prime that he would come up the ground to help be a target to keep the ball in our control. I don’t see RTT doing that and he’s a great contested mark generally speaking. But we need to work on that defensive play because rebound footy is modern footy.

I only saw the highlights because someone ruined the score for me before I was able to watch the replay, but what was with that selection.

With Fog out why would you bring Finbar in with ROB? It was one or the other ffs.

And so glad we had Jones ready in the wings ready for a call up instead of Edwards or Dowling. /s. Jones should not be on the list. The club refuses to admit they wasted a top pick in the super draft.

Another slow start where we use all our tickets getting back in and then fall over at the end.

I’ve been a Nicks apologizer but it’s time for him to go.
Nankervis would have been a much better option to have brough in as he is rangey and can take a grab but is far more mobile than bringing in ROB for whatever reason when Maley and Thilthorpe can both chop out in ruck.

McAndrew was fine, not helped by the umpires refusal to ping Jackson for grabbing the ball in the ruck and just dropping it or shoving McAndrew in the back time and time again.

Nonetheless, the I50 stat is damning, watching transition is like pulling teeth and being hammered in clearances are causes not symptoms.

Also good to see the number of soft frees in front of goals again, what do our forwards need to do to earn a similar free kick?

Once Fog was out and Maley in, a coaching group with even the faintest of clues, would have binned ROB.

Worrell and Milera kept our heads above water in the first half.

Not enough other players gave a yelp and our midfield was comprehensively beaten.

Yeah, yeah... much better after half time but that makes it worse. Why the conditional effort? Why are we absent when the canvas is blank and the tone is being set?
And Freo to a man had a phenominal 1st half in terms of contested marking power. It was Geelong at their best. Its hard to beat that when its really working and it sure was for them and they were deservedly well ahead. We really missed Butts, Keane and Curtin in that regard

Adelaide manage their list like it's capped at 27 players.

I feel like I've watched the exact same game 3 weeks in a row. Everyone in the stadium knew, deep down, even when we hit the front, the inevitable was coming.

If ROB ever plays for us again, I'm not attending.

You did...as I did.

Only difference was is Freo have a bit of Crows DNA about them so we reached new levels to deliver the same outcome.
